Looking good! Pre-cut holes in the fabric?
I've seen you have (or have use of?) a laser - it reminds me of doing leatherwork with KS4 students, using laser cut parts including the holes. CAD spacing (and avoiding the need for a class set of awls) allowed them to make some very convincing products: tight lacing gave the impression of machine stitching, but the smell of burning leather is still with me even after 12 years of retirement.
I'll be interested to see how that works - my first version was just a perforated rim which was successful in arranging uniform hand stitching in 3D, but I struggled with fabric tension - the ends became Pringle shaped, with additional wrinkles.
The second version (in the sewing thread) has a filled centre which gives a convenient surface for contact adhesive to hold the fabric flat while everything is pulled tight.
I did contemplate a central captive nut to fit a light mount - perhaps in the next version...
