  • I'd get off at the next bus stop.

  • Or on an empty train and then listen to some morning prayer on YouTube at max volume, at 8pm.

  • And that coat. I wondered what happened to my sofa.

  • Im still badly hungover from Saturday night and I’ve just walked in dog shit and it’s all in the cleats of my road shoes.

Have a great Monday you fucking cunts.

  • There is a 2.30min automated message on why you shouldnt be calling or why you should call someone else.

There will probably be a number you can press to skip this. That's why there are already so many people in the queue before you.

I think mine is 0 or 9. Give it a shot one morning when you don't urgently need an appointment.

My GP no longer does booked appointments except for follow ups. Every appointment has to be an emergency appointment. Nuts.

  • Hesitated to post this for fear of being pilloried in the golf club thread but here goes anyway.

Private GPs. Often same day appointment. No shitty reception experience. No need to justify your appointment. Can provide your NHS GP with updates for your records. Depending on who you use, a 20 min appointment is about £75 to £100 and longer apps are available.

If you can afford it, it's well worth it. Gave it a shot for the first time abut 7 years ago after being given the runaround for three weeks by a NHS practice when all I was trying to do was register.

  • Two tier health care. Yay.

  • Sensible. I stuck it out, internalising my rage.

  • Yeah, it's shit. Really shit.

I tried my NHS GP a few times in recent years in the hope that things might have improved. No signs so far.

I have a fair few friends who need NHS treatment for various things and they just aren't getting it. Really feels like the beginning of the end for the NHS as we know it.

  • Depends where you are tho. Current GP is beyond shit.

My old GP in Islington was decent from a service pov. Good tech, easy to use, etc. When my OH lived in Crouch End there was an excellent GP, which unfortunately closed to new applicants as it was so good for pediatrics.

Annoyingly I had to move as our GP refused to refer us for fertility treatment unless we were both registered there. Which is quite frankly ridiculous. Luckily we were able to do it in the US so didn't have to deal with them again on that matter.

TBH I don't see what's wrong with people using private GPs if they can. The reason lots of GPs are shit isn't a handful of private GPs. What is a bigger issue is that some (like mine) are so atrocious, where as others are perfectly serviceable (I'm not expect outstanding).

  • Almost as if the idea of turning them all into stand-alone businesses to compete against each other was a bad idea. Contrary to popular fiscally conservative belief, the market does not always sort things out.

My Mum is two years into an Alzheimers diagnosis on the NHS and still waiting to se a doctor for the first time. She's lucky that she could afford to go private...going to be interesting if she does ever get an NHS appointment. She was told that she could expect one in October last year but nothing yet.

  • Currently working in Madrid. Been here for a couple of years

  • My ankle, 1 hour into a 3 day trip to Berlin I completely fucked it on some cobbles and now can’t walk at all. Luckily it hurts slightly less when I’m riding a bike. Also, I think the booze is helping a bit.

  • James Corden I've had saddle sores less annoying

  • Thank you i rest my case

  • Being a pedant here all GPs are private
The might take contracts from the NHS but they are all private always have been

  • Not pedantic really, it's a good point.

  • Since the GP chat I had a need to book a GP appointment. I was awake at 2am because of my Covid symptoms and decided that I wanted to see a GP about something unrelated to my Covid.

Went into the app that the private GP uses hoping to book an appointment within the next two weeks or so. Turns out that they have 24 hour appointments. I booked at 0215 and was having a video call with a GP at 0300. GP gave me a prescription and automatically arranged it to be delivered to my front door within 12 hours.

    Eat that, NHS.

  • This is rather tasteless in a number of ways.

Would hope that the "eat that comment" would be seen as very much tongue in cheek.

If you think that using a private medical service is tasteless when it is literally not possible to book an appointment with my NHS GP, then fair enough I guess.

Edit: If your issues is with a GP being available at 3am, they weren't. The service is international and they hold a rota of UK GMC registered GPs who practice in the US, Canada and Middle East...they just allocated the out of hours apps to them.

  • Maybe it wasn't the intent, but your comment can very easily be read as gloating over the efficiency of your private medical service. Tongue in cheek or otherwise, it is a luxury not available to many who are reliant on the NHS for all healthcare...

  • I think bragging about the efficiency of your private medical service doesn't read particularly well. Hence the tasteless comment.

Ah I see, maybe you didn't see the chat a few pages back where I was decrying the existence of a two tier healthcare system and acknowledging the level of priviliege required to go private.

As somebody who worked for the NHS for over a decade, and who has regularly posted about family members not receiving life saving care in recent years, and as somebody who has lost friends due to lack of NHS service availablity, I assumed it would go without saying that I see private healthcare as a very unpalatable and unfair direction for healthcare in this country.
