  • Think the 505 or 605? was built in Iran and/or Egypt for a while in late 90's early 00's? Seems every taxi out there is one. Mates had several of them, thought they were great 20 odd years ago (most of them from back then still running around) and foolishly set him on the path of Peugeot in the UK, yeah, he quickly changed his mind on that lol.

    For a while old Audi 100/1st gen 'A6' from 1989-1996 were being built in Russia or Kazahkstan I think? Remember seeing absolutely tonnes of them out there, originally thought they were all being rebuilt using NOS audi parts, but turns out was the whole audi line had been moved out there. Most cars had the 2.6/2.8 v6 (reliable AF) and high spec interiors as standard. Did think about going and buying one new and bringing it back as was the last of the real solid steel Audi's IMO.

    Also a BX is not an old citroen, I have accepted that the CX is. Recently seen a CX gti turbo estate modded with a bigger turbo and nitrous to cope with the turbo lag.

  • Anyone else looked at the Lancia Aurelia on ebay.

    It is an absolute bargain, and I would sell my soul to own it and use it as an everyday car.

  • Would the DS without transmission and engine be heavier than the EV stuff including batteries, or would it be the other way round? That would dictate which way round the shipping should go if the goal is to minimise fuel costs.

  • The cool badge on the back and the different wheels on this MG caught my eye yesterday....
    ...and then I saw the front with the different grille and unmistakeable bonnet bulge which explained the burbling noise I was hearing.

    Further investigation reveals its a Ken Costello Mk1 MGB with a V8 engine. He did this before MG ever thought about doing this themselves, and only after finally getting to see and drive his version did they decide to do their own one.

  • No idea. But that is a very good point. I was basing any cost estimate on car imports. For example, my brother in law paid £2000 ish to ship his Audi back to aus from the UK. I still have no idea why he did that but anyway. The cost was based on the car fitting in a container. Weight wasn't part of it. You could fill the car with stuff if you wanted.

  • Are the Australian DS left or right hand drive?

  • Locally delivered ones were right hand drive.

  • @Dammit No real info. Only know of 1 conversion we did that changed hands recently. And that one is not really a good example because it was a 2CV that was converted for Coca Cola as a giveaway. The winner was a huge CC fan but didn’t use the 2CV.

  • Do modern spray paints need cutting back between layers? I've spent today filling a couple of deep scratches in the bumper, then sanding down coarse to fine wet/dry. I'd like to try and blend as much as possible too

    Anyone got any sage advice/tips?

  • I've only done this kind of painting with furniture but the principles are the same. You can use a very fine hand sanding pad, somewhere around 400 grit to denib between coats.

    If you've not done much of this kind of work before there are lots of 'beware who goes there' sage advice I could offer.

    It's very hard to do a decent job outside of a paintshop.

  • Yeah cheers. I've never really done it before, but watching a few videos now. I'll use primer and sand between coats, the same with the paint, then clear coat

  • I've not used clear coat but the times I've sprayed gloss it's not that gloss out of the gun. It needed polishing. Maybe clear coat doesn't need that but it's worth bearing in mind.

  • Have found that (with automotive paints) type of paint and brand of paint can vary the finish. Then add the gun.

    Also found that a few paints brands don't like you using different brands of primer and prep. stuff. The paints now seem geared to be a 'system' but not sure it that is body shops or paint sprayers.

    I quite like using graffiti can spray nozzles as I feel that with the variable types of nozzle you can get the the right spray pattern.

  • I have mixed feelings about spraying. Some aspects of it are brilliant others not so much.

  • I could go and Google it but I like testing my useless car knowledge. I think it was the 405 built in Iran. But with a simplified chassis and engines.

    Had never heard of the rebuilt Audi 100's. That would be a great cruiser.

  • Early signs of spring are with us.
