  • Fantastic bicycle, fan since I first saw it!

The missus just fished the same model from the bay, although probably a bit smaller (51cm seat tube, 57.5cm top tube C-C). How is yours proportioned?

It arrived on Friday - but now to "her" problem. The color is so weird - depending on light it changes from brown to green, but actually being violet. And....she hates violet (I on the contrary have got 2 violet bikes ;))...oh no.

So she decided on going for a respray (don't blame me please, I love the color). As we've a framebuilder right in town, we are thinking about some modifications at the same time. Low-rider mounts, rear rack mounts on the mono-stay. But also, as this is intended directly as 650b, possibly moving the canti studs.

Regarding the R559: did you had to file them down or even open the tabs? And: what is the maximum tire width with your current setup? Thinking also about crimping chainstays if required ...

And, last question: measured a 26.2 diameter seatpost. Correct?

Thanks for any help in advance!

  • How is yours proportioned?

56cm seat tube, 58.5cm top tube.

Regarding the R559: did you had to file them down or even open the tabs?

Not sure what you mean. I did have to drill a hole in the mono stay, as the mudguard hole at the back isn't through and through. And I changed the caliper bolt to a longer one, so I could put a nut onto it (since you can't recess the hole for a recessed nut, as the seat tube is in the way to be able to drill it).

what is the maximum tire width with your current setup?

I recon 650b x 47c will fit. Haven't tried it (yet) though. Currently running 42c with 51mm guards.

measured a 26.2 diameter seatpost. Correct?

    I've got a 26.4mm in there.

Good luck with the Muddy Fox; those plans sound good! Would be cool to see some pictures.

  • Thanks @Tijs for the information!

56cm seat tube, 58.5cm top tube.
Strange...this would be quite different to our geometry. Length almost the same, but the seat tube is so different...guess you measured centre-to-centre with the seat tube? Measuring centre-to-end of the seat post gives me 55cm.

Hole in the monostay sounds like a good idea we should give the frame when its naked.

With the filing of the tabs I meant if you were able to move the brake pad the required amount down to the rim, without modifying the brakes itself...if the brake arms are not long enough, one could file the hole where the pads are mounted at the bottom, to get even lower with the pads. Would be nice, if it would work without modifying the brakes....

Good to hear that 42mm fits fine and 47mm could also eventually be possible...and: will keep you updated on the build of course!

  • And almost finished. Missing rear rack, light and fenders...

    (26" to 650b conversion btw)
