Found an ITM Seatpost for the Time. I got the frame without the OG seatpost which used the ITM design, so this one is almost a perfect match. It’s such a good ride and I love the carbon weave - which contrary to many bikes from that era isn’t just a nice finishing layer.

The Bottecchia got some Nitto Noodles - finally more reach than the compact bars. Still dialling in the fit: quite like the wonky inwards hoods position on these 44cm bars and I tested the Brooks with a slightly upwards nose - don’t like the look but it seems to work better for me than in a horizontal position. Got another seatpost in the meantime with a little more setback - the classic brooks problem...
If I got some metal guards for this, should I get polished Berthouds or hammered black VO?

That Time is fantastic... what Campagnolo is it? Record?
-
• #255
Thanks! It’s mostly Chorus 11 with a record 11 derailleur running a Shimano 11 speed chain and casette combo on r45s with a shimano freehub.

is it a recovered carbon SLR saddle? also whats the frame threading for BB? (can't be BB30 can it? would you choose Rotor over a 5 bolt carbon Campagnolo crank?)
so good though... it's a campag crank, slammed and chopped steerer/stem, shallow carbon rims and carbonworks cages/ali express versions away from absolute perfection for me... and maybe also something retro modern like a carbon regal evo saddle... lovely...

Glad you like it :) I’d say we have a similar taste and the appreciation is mutual: your look and parlee projects have a similar vibe for sure. The idea for the bike was something along the lines of beautifully-engineered traditional road bike that I could enjoy on a vacation in the alps. Unfortunately I haven’t taken it to the alps yet but fingers crossed it’ll happen this summer. Obviously, the bike was built primarily because I wanted a project, not out of a particular need ;) I like Time as a company and their RTM manufacturing process, I have a thing for campagnolo, always wanted some ck hubs and the reason for the rotor cranks is that they are compact cranks. They’re 110bcd and have a 24mm axle - the frame is bsa threaded. I had some chorus cranks on there but they were 53/39, not really my ratio. Also, the gun drilling on the rotor cranks is another interesting nerdy engineering feature. The shimano chain and casette allow for cheaper running gear + it makes the wheels more versatile for future use with the shimano hub. Saddle is indeed an SLR carbonio re-upholstered with alcantara.
P.s. You’d probably prefer the previous set-up with the Chorus Cranks and a sleek stem.

I hear you and thank you as well - the whole ‘young-timer neo-retro future-classic’ thing is an itch I can’t scratch hard enough… I guess my inclination for the Campagnolo crank is that it’s carbon, and paired with the rear mech and callipers defines a rule I want to achieve myself, all metal things metal, all carbon things carbon… no paint, no anodising etc…
I’ve got the leather ready for a recovering of a carbon SLR but annoyingly when it arrived from eBay my bright red saddle was almost pristine and it felt daft to strip a near new saddle… big fan of the pop of silver on the brakes… I’ve been keeping an eye out for some silver R45 in a lower spoke drilling to pair with shallow carbon rims…
I actually really like the Time stem, my comments for ‘improvement’ aren’t meant as any criticism, they’re the niggling bits I’d be swapping in and out over the course of months chasing an aesthetic result which has very little effect on the enjoyment of any actual bike ride I could be going on, as you say the habit of the project is often stronger than the compulsion to get out in the lanes -

You might be into this if you’ve not seen it 1000 times before - https://www.pedalroom.com/bike/colnago-extreme-power-56cm-64kg-20167 with silver callipers and a carbon stem it’s the best it can get (IMO and aside from the OCD issue that super record skeleton brakes were never available in silver for 11speed)
Also needs silver hubs and spokes… -

No worries, I didn‘t take it as criticism :) I actually wanted aluminium rims because of the brake performance and general reliability. To me it’s pretty much perfect as it stands - as in, I don’t see much room/need for changes at this point. Only needs to be ridden more regularly. As for the stem, I didn’t like it initially but it‘s beautifully designed from a technical point of view - so I came to appreciate it over time. And Can totally relate to your saddle dilemma, re-wrapping a mint red one would be a shame and it looked really nice on the de rosa. If I changed the saddle on the Time, it would be a flite - as on almost all of my other bikes :) red saddle doesn‘t look too bad either:

Yeah it can handle the red - if you want the red carbon slr let me know!!

Black hammered guards for sure!

Thanks for the offer but I think I‘ll stick with the black one for now - don‘t really need any more saddles tbh.
@MisterMikkel thanks for the input, I also think black would be a better choice, will give them a try.

Great thread with lots of nice bikes but what happened with that incredible Boschetti MS frameset? And have you updated to Merckx with the panto parts? Would love to see it finished, such a classic ! :)
-
• #265
Cheers! I put the panto parts on the Merckx and collected most of the C-record parts for the boschetti. The bikes aren‘t finished though, the Merckx has some incorrect decals and the Boschetti has a chorus headset and isn‘t really dialled in yet. Both are slow-burner/collector projects and not with me im Berlin.

I‘m visiting some friends in southern Germany and used the opportunity to do some touring/camping in the Black Forest. Here are some impressions:

Glad to hear you like the snaps! I feel like I got a reasonably good eye for motives and composition but never took the step to get proper gear and dive into the technical side of photography. I‘ve been thinking about getting a quality compact camera like a fuji x100 series but I wonder if it‘s worth the money for my limited needs.
-

It's certainly not motifs or image quality you're lacking. Unless you REALLY want to dive into the rabbithole that is photography gear and paraphernalia, I'd just as soon spend the money on bikes and trips. (Editor's note: I used to be a commercial photographer and I don't want to lug my small DSLR with me anywhere)

Great pictures. Where did you take them? I live in Freiburg, also in the Black Forest region. Especially the first picture looks like somewhere I'd love to visit.
-
• #272
Fair enough, I‘m not quite sure if I want to go down that rabbit whole tbh. I definitely don‘t want to carry a large and heavy DSLR with different objectives that‘s why I thought a quality camera with a pancake lense might be a good compromise. Portability is definitely a priority as I would use it mostly for cycling trips.

Cheers! The first photo shows Schitach, a little Spa Village in the Kinzig Tal. I was surprised that it wasn’t touristy at all even though it looked ridiculously pittoresque. I’d definitely recommend the cycling route through that valley. If you start from Freiburg, you can follow the Enz northwards towards Oberprechtal, cross the mountains and descend into the Kinzigtal in Haslach. The third photo is from the Top of Feldberg, the last two are from the eastern part of the Schwarzwald along the route towards Konstanz.

I have been looking a Olympus Pen cameras for a while. High quality optics in small form factor and the ability to transfer to mobile devices via wifi are very appealing.
Let the SON-shine in. Cable routing could/should be improved...
