  • You do you.

The geo on that F&F is really klunker, how's it riding?

  • looks like abit of fill in from flash

  • So this guy Jan (piotrowicz on insta) offered to take the photos - they're all his work. But yeah he had a remote flash set up :)

  • It's actually lighter than I expected... but not by much and definitely a bruiser/cruiser. It's kind of unlike anything I've owned/ridden before, which was the intention I suppose.

One issue is that the bars are wider than the stairs that lead to my flat.

  • I started keeping Allen keys near the door a while back, loosen stems and turn sideways as you come in, esp helpful for keeping my tandem in the hall, both handlebars turned to face the wall when stored.

  • this is a Good Idea

  • Been away for a bit #bikepacking, realised I should probs ride this so changed a couple of bits thus:

  • Still looks great.

  • Love this. Looks so good.

  • Been having mucho fun riding this, and even doing a frozen Jan campout on it.

I think I want to ruin it. Its very nearly perfect for chilled rural pootles, but... It'd be even better if it would clear more than a 35c tyre.

So I'm thinking of finding a frame builder to cut off and move the brake mounts, and fabricate a new chainstay yoke/junction for more clearance, so that I can run a tubeless 650b rim brake set up.

I'm aware this will obviously ruin the paint but also might look rad - splatter / raw steel and brass mix.

    Is this a bad idea?

Edit: spelled yoke the eggy way

  • I'm going to say yes I think it will, as its great as it is. It's your bike though so you can do as you please.

  • if it was moving the brake bosses i would say yes, but with new yoke? new frame time imo

    wiggles eyebrows

  • Thanks for the non-eggy spelling correction

Maybe it is a step too far

I will see where the whim takes me

  • I personally think it would be a shame to ruin that amazing original paint job. But I also understand the urge for bigger rubber. Coming in late to the conversation here I have to ask: these are two different bikes? The 700cx35 and the 26” one?

P.s.: I was looking forward to meet you and check out that bike in person on the weekend but had to bail out because we where isolating at home.

  • Yeah that's right, two different bikes. A 1x10 700c hybrid, basically, and a silly SS 26er with handlebars that won't fit down my stairs.

Shame you couldn't make it this time! Lush crew, chilled riding. Strong campfire vibes. Next time.

  • Yes, definitely next time!

So wouldn't it be a more sensible solution to set up the 26er as a more touring friendly bike because it already has wider tyres? Or do you want big 700c wheels?

  • Sensible, probably. And achievable certainly. But then I wouldn't have a pub/lock up bike for London.

I guess I'm kinda after something with a cushy 650b rando vibe atm.

  • Fair enough!
650b cushy rando bikes are sick 😉.

  • It even does wheelies

  • looking very shreddy

  • Looks fun! New Forest?

  • Yea! Proper lush like

  • I think I want to buy a road bike. Just a normal road bike for riding on the roads normally to work. Like the Thorn Audax that I sold. Or the Genesis Equilibrium that I sold. Or the Surly Pacer that I sold. Just like either of them.

  • So a while back I bought a Kona Sutra with the intention of it lingering in my flat until I conjured the time/effort required to go on a big trip

I'm afraid this will be a bit of a before/after, which feels kind of against the spirit of this section, but whatever

  • Swapped the wheels, tyres, chainset, and saddle out for a trip to the canaries in December / Jan and it was nothing other than leisurely and comfy
