Corny, it is very sad. We have this situation looming with my GF little boy, only 9 right now 'happy go lucky and very innocent'.. but his teenage years will be a test of character for him. We need to teach him to be smart and behave in a way as to not draw attention to himself, becoming a teenager is fraught enough with many risks.
I think about those teenage friends of mine who faced discrimination and the damage it caused back then, a loss of innocence and abrupt end of childhood usually around an incident not of their making.

This the sort of thing that scares me for firstborn, not so much the excessive escalation, but that does boil my piss, but the adultification, which can do so much harm to his personality/character/and emotional well being.
He's tender hearted as it is and the idea that my bright boy could be fucked over by authorities that place their trust in a racist police force who could damage his spirit before he has a chance to figure out who he is, so I've got to get him to act in a certain way to armour himself against it, breaks my heart.
