That was a fascinating read, thank you. There's a Sonnerie on Ch24 for £131k, and having read how it's made I can't argue that it's not worth it. https://www.chrono24.co.uk/seiko/seiko-seiko-credor-gblq998-spring-drive-sonuri-watch--id18198102.htm Not too keen on the looks, but maybe it's just a poor photo. Anyway, file it under Euromilli0ns. If I won maybe I could get the case finished a little differently. Maybe matt white gold with a black strap.

Take a look at the Eiichi II as well.

Not a chiming watch, but the same level of movement finishing and a pretty amazing hand-painted enamel dial.

What watch would you take for a long term bike tour?
In a few months I'm going to be setting off on a long distance tour which at times will be in fairly remote regions with no phone signal - none of my automatic (all pretty low end) watches keep time that well and I'm after something digital, maybe with trekking/adventure features.
Features I think would be useful:
- thermometer
- multiple timezones
- sunrise/sunset
Altimeter and barometer are cool but are these actually useful in the real world?
https://www.casio-intl.com/asia/en/wat/watch_detail/PRG-30B-3/
The Pro Trek PRG-30 seems to fit the bill but is an Asia only model. Available with a rubber strap from Creation for £140, I'd prefer the fabric strap but assume I'd be able to swap that myself.Alternatively do I just keep it simple and get a Casio F-91W for £20 and forget about all the features I'd probably never actually use.

G Shock would be my go to, but I am a cliché.
DW5600 at the cheaper end
GW9400 if i was feeling flush.Get a positive display model though, as they can be a bit difficult to read in bright light

There are a few exporters of JDM Casios if you really want a specific model and don’t mind paying a bit extra.
A GW-M5610 G-shock with solar charging and the radio sync will be pretty universally useful and robust and a lot smaller than the Pro Treks, but not have any ABC or thermometer functions.
Sounds like a good excuse to buy a Pro Trek to me. :)

Is this the North American trip you mentioned to me like a million years ago? If so, very excited for you!
That Pro-Trek looks good and the weight penalty for extra functions seems to be a no brainer - a bit like insurance really. Straps are easy to swap out.

Wow this is super nice!

Barometer would be mandatory IMO. Otherwise how will you get a weather forecast?

@DethBeard and @Regal
Thanks for the suggestions, size is definitely a consideration - my other watches are all 36mm and I have pretty narrow wrists. Don't want to suddenly strap a dinner plate on.
I got close to buying a GW9400 a few years ago but it looked ridiculous on me, I wanted something a bit oversized and cartoonish but it was ridiculous.
I need to do a 1:1 print out of the Pro Trek to test the size, it might look stupid too.
GW-M5610 looks like a solid option if I decide against the extra functions.
@Aroogah
North, Central and South, we're going big... still slightly in shock that it's finally going ahead, I'll start a thread on it soon -

Until recently (5 minutes ago) I didn't know about using a barometer to tell the short term weather forecast.
Looks like the Pro Trek (or something similar) is worth getting over something which just tells the time.

Unfortunately I no longer work for an AD.
I'll still be doing vintage and preowned and dealing with the specialist restorers / watchmakers .
And I'll still have an opinion!!
I left on the 5th of March taking two weeks off before starting at new business, however got Covid 3 days later so haven't left the building for 10 days. Am so bored , but going through all my accumulated odds n sods with a view to clearing a LOAD of stuff.
Sold the Chronostop , still have the quartz seamaster 200 to move and I haven't even listed the modern Seamaster diver yet. I have found an unbelievable amount of spares/straps literature / manuals etc Not to mention boxes and trinkets from Baselworld.
I don't suppose anyone wants to buy one of the gold astronaut statues from Omega ? That's probably a keeper but indicative of stuff I have found I had. -
• #62040
Just found a 6 foot by 3 foot fabric display hanger with Daniel Craig and the "spectre" Omega !!
Anyone ?.......... -
• #62041
I'd love the gold astronaut statue, but maybe a little disingenuous as I don't have a moonwatch.

I have a Protrek (PRW-3000) and it's an excellent watch. Much more readable than a G-shock and still really tough. It's very lightweight so doesn't feel that big. I like it enough that I've been keeping an eye out for the titanium version for the past few years (sadly out of stock everywhere and never appear second-hand).
Compass is really the only feature I've made use of but it's proved useful at times.

Anything Bond stick it on eBay!
I worked for a famous artist shooting the bond archive and a few things on the pinewood set of one of the DC movies and got given a crew jacket and a few other things and they went for silly money.I have a JLC leather and wood iPhone speaker thing from a manufacturer visit but most freebies were food and booze related (I ate the JLC chocolates and the honey from the bees on the roof)

Will get round to listing all this and posting somewhere , but if anyone is looking for anything particularly I have a surprisingly random selection of brand literature.
A lot of IWC hardback catalogs, zenith a retailers handbook from Breitling from 1995 a sales guide for speedmaster from what looks like the 1990s . Some 1990s Tag Heuer , Nomos hard back “encyclopaedias in English and one in German.
Pm me if you want me to rifle through for anything. Values according to rarity I guess.
This is just the first box......

In the unlikely even you have anything G Shock, I would really like a g-man
I'm at -3%, -23%, +355% and +40% for an overall result of +63%.
