  • But are Craig Charles & Tom Cruise known to be customers...? Sometimes I miss brum, gazes wistfully towards bull ring. Mainly when looking at house prices.

  • Rani vegetarian (Finchley), had a great banana curry from here and some kind of sweet bread thing with poppy seeds, they are on too good to go as well. Cheap and delicious.

  • Brilliant dinner at Oklava. Would have had the kunefe if we hadn't have already had the hellim and pide.

  • Lunch for one - East / Central

sometimes when I'm in recovery mode I like to go out for lunch by myself. Some people find this odd; I find it a way to unwind a bit and reflect.

So any suggestions on places where you wouldn't feel out of place eating alone, can have a couple of courses and a few drinks at a slowish pace, more the casual end of things than the Michelin end...?

  • If I was eating on my own one nice option would be looking for a spot where you can sit at the counter watching the chefs. Palomar is incredible and service also great. Popolo in Shoreditch is amazing too.

Or get the burger in one of the Hawksmoor bars.

  • not sure it's open, but you could do the towpath cafe over in haggerston

  • Cafe cecilia
    Cafe Deco
    Norms Cafe
    Lighthaus cafe
    Quality Wines

  • thanks both; nice suggestions. google says towpath cafe is close at the moment and popolo doesn't open for lunch, but will store both options for future reference :)

  • I think London’s cafe scene is amazing and a perfect shout for eating alone.

The other option is your more classic London establishments where eating alone, with a paper is not even blinked at

  • Thanks @Tenderloin

Enjoying my visit to lighthaus, something of a hidden gem. Lunch service has a coffee shop vibe, will come back for dinner sometime soon.

  • Love Lighthaus 😍

  • Cracking turnaround!
Great spot and thought it was pretty convenient for you from memory.

  • yep, even in the slight drizzle it was a pleasant enough amble down there.

cheers for the list - will be checking out a couple of others in due course...

  • Barrafina at any of their locations will tick your boxes too, it can get a bit pricy though

  • I'm sure I'd read that Lighthaus closed, I'm glad I was wrong.

Marugame Udon would be a good shout for casual solo dining as well.

  • Where is the best falafel in London? I know balady.

  • Berwick Street market.
    Jerusalem falafel.
I've not had better in London, but I am by no means a falafel connoisseur, or particularly knowledgeable.

Syrian kitchen was really good too.

  • Ended up west to get food from the market.
    Mr falafel - OK
    Osmans juice -Excellent
    Syrian kitchen looks great

  • Any ideas where I could take my partner for a nice lunch today near old street shoreditch? First day out with the baby in a year so somewhere nice but not to formal would be great!thank you

  • Rochell Canteen? I've still never been but I think they only open during the week anyway. Think @Tenderloin was happy about their baby friendliness.

  • The fancy cafes listed recently all look great options for a more casual lunch!

  • Rochelle Canteen would be great - not sure if they're open/available for walk ins but if they're then 100% go
