Almost as bad as those "powered by fairydust" or some such shite.
And "baby on board"
If a car is parked with a BoB sticker, we should be allowed to smash the windows to search for the abandoned spawn. -
• #18753
Yeah the 'Baby on board' riles me up. Mind you 'Utter cunt on board' would be useful, but I guess 'Range Rover' in big letters works just as well.

Conifers are disgusting. Get them chopped.

I don't mind the one where there's doll nailed to a bit of 2x4.
Seems to have lessened now, but the stick figures of a few years ago were defo the LLL of cars. -

I hate that people feel the need to get them but as someone who drives the speed limit with no black box or sticker, you do get a lot of cunts driving right up your arse trying to force you faster, which can be intimidating, especially if you're a relatively new driver as tends to be the case with black box insurance policies.

I ease up more when this happens and find they'll either find a way past or get the message and back off.

"baby on board"
I guess in the event of an accident this info might be useful to first responders. As a means of excusing bad / selfish driving behaviour it belongs here.

• #18759
Yeah I suppose my hatred is a little bit of cunts who drive up your arse if you're doing anything below 30 in a 20 zone, and a little bit people feeling the need to apologise to said cunts.
My tactic tends to be to interpret tailgating as a request for me to drive even slower.
-
• #18760
I had a sticker that said the closer you get, the slower I drive. But I was a teenager and stupid.
There's no place in my heart for car stickers any more -
• #18761
Yeah, few miles an hour slower until they show down then back to 20/30/70 to create a safe gap, rinse and repeat until they fuck off.

A couple of weeks ago, on Hare and Billet Road in Blackheath, I saw somebody tailgating a car that was doing about 2o (its a 20 zone) and then rage overtaking them before speeding off. The car it overtook put its blues and sirens on and pulled them over...was an undercover cop car.
It basically made my week.

Ahhh, the sweet joy of karma

Its giving me a deep sense of satisfaction just thinking about it now.

20mph zones get under my skin a bit tbh. Loads of surveys have found that a majority of people ignore the limit.
If they're necessary for safety, and the majority of people speed in them, then those zones should be strictly enforced with cameras. Either they are needed and should be enforced, or they are not and the limit raised. They clearly don't act as a deterrent.
-
• #18766
No, but 20mph limits are mostly enforced by plenty of people who do drive at 20mph max in them.
Cheaper than actual enforcement when Government policy is full austerity still.
-
• #18767
Plus some people will do 30 in them instead of 40 in a 30 zone. Black box all the cars.

I see your point. Rospa seem pretty sure that they help in terms of reducing average speed overall.
https://www.rospa.com/rospaweb/docs/advice-services/road-safety/drivers/20-mph-zone-factsheet.pdf
I can't find any info from later than 2016 but back then about 60% of drivers exceeded the limit in 20mph zones...it does sound like the existence of the zones has reduced overall speed though.

They help more people drive at 30mph instead of 45mph.

A couple of summers ago my wife saw a pram/buggy roll down a slope into the middle of a 20mph road and a car barely managed to stop in time. Obvs just a guess but she reckoned it was clearly doing 30+. I don't think it can be argued that it's not a good thing for everybody to drive slower! Also really helps for mobility limited pedestrians crossing safely.

I was under the impression that "most" of the speed restrictions are due to air quality rather than road safety.
There is a decent chunk of 4 lane A road near me that is 50mph (Basildon to Southend on the A127) and every extension is justified as to improve the air quality of the hundreds of homes housing estates they decided to build next to a fucking trunk road.

I grew up a couple hundred metres from the A127 (noak bridge) when it was national speed limit and the fumes never done me any harm (citation needed). I do recall there being fatal crashes pretty regularly though.

Yeah this. Almost feels weird that we don’t all have black boxes (if you ignore all the gammon rage that would result from it).
If I’m going anywhere near 20 and I’m behind a cyclist, I’ll just happily cruise along behind them. It’s rare that I don’t then have some apoplectic twunt right up behind me, furious that I’m not as cross and impatient as they are. I think being forced to drive at a legal speed would actually calm a lot of these people down a bit. Probably save the NHS a few quid in the process.

Who installs the black box? The insurance co?
-
• #18775
Car manufacturers
Those stickers people have on the back of their car, apologising for having a black box.
"Sorry I'm not going above the speed limit, someones forcing me to not constantly break the law'
