It's… tolerable. I think it makes sense for the watch. It's basically a perfect "one nice watch" Speedmaster for the average punter who isn't hung up on having the astronaut version. Date, magnetic resistance, nice bracelet, adjustable clasp, all the modern appointments (apart from it not being automatic, but that also makes it more Speedmaster-y). If you wear it every day the date is less of an issue than it would be in a bigger collection where you're rotating stuff all the time.
I'm not anti dates on watches. I find them useful. Worst thing about the date in this case is that they've done a bit of digital stretching to make the numbers fit and it's at odds with the rest of the typography, which is quite nice overall. Apart from that it's pretty well done. Would I prefer it with a normal index marker there? Yeah.
