  • This game is 90% of why I'm still log in to this place I think

  • I'm only here to bully people into buying mountain bikes

  • what's the fitness like when your knee is blown out

  • I've got myself into an inescapable schtick, I don't have any answers just more "material"

  • I‘d say yes that could work. Is there no 120 internal gear hub though?

  • did that,
    cold-set to 130mm,
    made the dropouts parallel again,
got an old hanger from another crashed frame brazed on,
    full external housing with zip-ties

go on, if you like to, i wouldn't necessarily recommend, but if you already have most of the stuff, do it, it will work

the only inconvenience i have is the back brake, because of using mini-vs and their little tolerances in setting up, taking the wheel in and out is a little more time consuming, so the breakpads are aligned

    still love it

some more little input on the spacing part,
a lot of old hubs can be re-spaced, usually there is a spacer on the nondrive-side, you can take out or replace,
you should dish the rim afterwards and maybe have to shorten the axle

  • this is for the partner!!! not me!! their ankle is bad!!

this is very helpful @FlnFnk , im using v brakes so should aleviate it a bit on the brake front, i remember it being a pta without a mech when running vs!

@Oddo i was thinking internal gears but part of me just really loves a low gear external drive train - and a chance at doing a 7 speed bike seems fun!

  • I said I wouldn't necessarily recommend, i take that back

"Maybe I’m just making these excuses as I don’t want to go to Bristol and actually can’t handle when the exact thing I want is presented to me because the thing is not what I want, I just want the self flagellation and the eternal spiral" - Maj

    perfect candidate, do highly recommend

n+1 is even more satisfying when you're growing your partners bike collection

  • Fyxation actually made a kit for 120 spaced track frames to 6 speed. Not sure if that's desirable or even obtainable.

I just thought an IGH might look cleaner. External 7 speed seems to be more versatile though (and most probably cheap to set up).

I am pretty sure I have a gear hanger for ss dropouts in a box. Let me know if you want it.

  • just checking, this seems legit right?

AFAIK only v4 didn't have the wishbone-kind of rear so this must be that?

  • this is genuinely impressive technically, if it wasnt 350$ it would be an easy win,

i think looking around casually and not "being fussy", as the rider is not, the overall cost for a 7 speed conversion with friction shifting, including wheel and new cranks/chainring should be about 120-150£ or less

i would absalutely love that ss conversion hanger if you have it, that would get the ball rolling

  • it really looks like an OG pomp

  • I’ve rammed a 130 hub in the back of two pomp’s, without doing anything else. I’m still here to tell the tale

  • Very nice, what fork is that please?

  • No changes, just a big carry day. Still room for Pannier bags.

    (Slack chain, I know)

  • Locks on locks on locks. Most secure pomp about

  • Ha well spotted. My daughter was on her bike with me, and we'd had to borrow my partners lock as daughter had left hers at a friends house so we collected it and had 3 then.

I was Sherpa for the day.

  • sry for the late reply, bought ca. 8 years ago, german mailorder "house brand", alu steerer, kind of cheap

didn't believe in finding one, but actually found one that should match

  • That's ace. I'm a sucker for a utilitarian Pomp. What's the front rack?

  • Ta, rack is Pelago

  • Mine on the commute this morning. I'll take it up around the forest later.

  • I've just picked this up which I think is a v4 pomp with no stickers. Will I be able to squeeze some 42's I've got in if I lose the guards?
