All I can think of is check if you maybe need hard wearing or fast growing etc.
There are different types.

Yes, depends if you want bowling green or kids football pitch. Latter will have more rye grass content.

Cheers. Looking for hardwearing and good coverage I guess

where's the best place to buy plants / shrubs etc online ? we don't have a car so can't go to a garden centre - a shame because it would be nice to see the actual specimens being bought
was thinking here for grasses: https://www.macplants.co.uk/

I'd say it depends on your list, some plants / shrubs / trees can be had everywhere, some not so.
Many nurseries deliver if you order a largish amount.

For generic stuff I like Beth Chatto, Claire Austen, burncoose, sarah raven, waitrose garden.
However if you can find a nursery near to you that's often the best shot.

Whereabouts do you live? Not all garden centres are out of town.
I think it depends what you want. For good deals on annuals, Thomson and Morgan (sp?) are generally good.

J parkers Dutch plants is good, used them several times and all plants survived the post to NI* and were fine.
*Now with Brexit they no longer ship here...

Not finished finished (still needs some clean up and painting once everything properly goes off), but the hard work is done (by @ColinTheBald, well, mostly by Mel).

The circle in the middle of the path is a concrete relief of a squirrel that the old owners had just slapped in the middle of the path as a trip hazard. Will get treated to bring out the squirrel more.

We had originally hoped to reuse the original tiles but A) they were fucked, B) there weren't anywhere near enough of them that were still in one piece C) it's nigh on impossible to get reclaimed ones D) the new versions are half the thickness which made mixing and matching nearly impossible. Below shows the new path compared to the neighbour's, whose tiles are in better shape than ours were. We also wanted to re-use the original barley twist rope edge border tiles, but they had been broken and set into concrete by previous iterations of cowboy landscapers.

Pavers are Tuscan Limestone, for extra Golf Club points.
Will be building a wooden bin store with a pergola top down the open/alley/path side of the yard.

Looks fab - need to see some planting though to be true to the gardening ethos.
Here’s some stuff I’ve been doing- planted our Torbay palm that’s been in a pot. Made some steps out of heavy York stone, made a bird table thing , shredded some tree branches I cut down. Total cost = £0 as it was all lying around/excess scraps

I have a plan for a seating area set around a fire pit and possibly a built in bbq for the garden. But Before I go full steam ahead, I wondered if anyone knows of some design software or anyone with more knowledge on things like this so that I don’t make an expensive mistake.
Any help appreciated

Just tried to mow the lawn - batteries in the lawnmower appear to have died over winter.
Had a look on the flymo website and can't find any trace of spares for this model of battery powered lawnmower, but can find a shit load of reviews saying the batteries just die and flymo won't do anything about it. Bloody thing is only a year old, probably used it a dozen times.
Have emailed flymo but based on the reviews, I'm not hopeful of a positive response.

That sounds rubbish! What an attitude.

It's pretty criminal that no standard form factors for power tool batteries exist. I think it should be regulated tbh.
At least the cells inside are likely to be standard and recyclable but chances are they're spot welded together and have safety electronics etc

Yes, just like phone chargers.
Manufacturers change a model after a year or so, and re-design the batteries... and that would appear to be that.
Somewhat ironically, I actually ordered the corded model as it was half the price, received the battery model in error, thought I had lucked in big time. But the corded version would no doubt still be working.

In actual gardening news, our Sichuan pepper is starting to wake up. Got it last year and hoping to actually get some pepper out of it this year.

I got one of these for Christmas, leaves are starting to appear on mine too. I'm very excited for homegrown Sichuan peppers!
Any recommendations for grass seed? Is it all much of a muchness?
