thanks. and @Ndeipi. Classic that there's a sheldon article.
I can see how filing that bit off will extend the amount the shifter turns, but not how much cable it pulls per degree of rotation.
I think i'll give up on this one for the moment.
I want to use an 8speed xt m732 friction shifter with a 10speed dynasis mech. The shifter pulls 22mm ish of cable from 1-8, the dynasis needs like 34mm to go the full range. Any bodges out there to reduce the mech pull or increase shifter pull? Or a cable majig?
