CIC and universal did small box releases on VHS
Unfortunately the artwork is pretty unimaginative

I really need to watch Uncut Gems again. I've not seen it since I watched it in the cinema. Heaven Knows What and The Pleasure Of Being Robbed are well worth a watch as well. They're very different though, you can tell the Safdies had found their style with Good Time.

We had a Batman day yesterday, prep for seeing the new one next week. One line from the Dark Knight really stood out

Well, The Batman was great, it looks fantastic and has a terrific film noir pulp fiction feel. I thought all the cast did a top job, if you can avoid reading the cast list before you see it there’s a mind blower in there.

Just finished Frank. Been wanting to see it for ages, but never found the right time. Bonkers but excellent. Really enjoyed it.

Yeah, I had no idea until three or four days after I saw it when I saw said cast member be interviewed. I was dumbfounded.

Went to see The Sanctity of Space last night in the fillums
Disappointing. Confusing and muddled narrative, constantly switching. Amazing cinematography, but not enough to carry it. Got boring. It's certainly no The Alpinist, Free Solo or 14 Peaks
5.5/10

This Taxi Driver poster came up on my memories. No idea of where I saw it and when/where it’s from, but love it.

Martin Ansin for Alamo drafthouse screening in 2013 (apparently)
Looks like it'll set you back a couple of grand these days. -

I saw Red Rocket at the Rio on Dalston last night. Great cinema if you are local.
Red Rocket is directed by Sean Baker who also made Tangerine and the Florida Project. It's really funny and a beautiful looking film. If you liked his other films you'd love this.

I'm really excited to see it! Big fan of Tangerine and Florida Project.

Course The Thing was already a remake
Catching up with this thread way late, because of things (not Things, obv). It's not a remake, it's another go at making a film from the original short story. I'm not saying you can never call a second attempt at dramatising a written story a remake, but if the word's going to be meaningful the later film should be at least partially based on the earlier one, not just on the source material.
You could argue the toss for ages about which film was truer to the not-amazing source; the first film was made when they didn't have the kind of special effects that could depict a person-absorbing shapeshifter, so they made the alien a sentient vegetable that plants its seeds in the bodies of its victims. The later film has the original story's shapeshifter and the way they identify thing-people by dipping hot prongs in their blood but takes it to a much darker place - the source material has the same humans-triumphing-over-evil spirit and happy ending that you see in the first film.
@J0nathan aye, the references to The Thing in Hateful Eight stand out and are deliberate - I mean, that's pretty much signature style for Tarantino.

I always imagined The Church to be a film to watch with trepidation due to that picture, plus a mate going on and on about it. About 25 years later, I got around it and its nothing of the sort - its classic batshit late 80s Italo fare!
Ditto Demons.

I maintain that at one point in the late 90s, EVERY house in Britain had a mandatory copy of The Thing on video somewhere. It seemed to be always there, no matter where!

Weekends watching:
Mark of the Devil - dunno why I watch it every now and then, I don't like it. Good theme tune though
Inferno - good fun mad end nouveau. Makes zero sense, but thats whats good!
I Monster - all the great stuff. No matter how many times I drink this brew, its refreshing. Weirdly going for a 3D effect, but not actually a 3D film. Lee randomly thrusting a bunsen burner into the camera etc.

There must be enough copies around to rival the Hellraiser bus stop
Great collection (and pooch). Can you share a picture of your ‘The Thing’? Want to see if I can find one and frame it, but not sure what options there are in terms of artwork versions.
