  • looks great but that chain looks like it's going to make it a massive pain in the arse to get the wheel on and off with it slammed into the rear track ends like that at that tension.

I remember setting mine up like that once thinking it'd save retensioning when the chain went slack but ended up buying a new chain and fitting so it was a link or two longer as it was a proper faff to do maintenance on it.

  • yo, actually it's no problem getting the rearwheel in and out. this is the biggest ratio I intend to run on this, so if I change gears it'll be less slammed
@kjlem yes it the "59" with tt 587mm and st is 610mm c-t

  • ah cool. thought i'd mention in case you'd joined the chain as tightly as possible without thinking about needing enough slack to clear the chain over the teeth to remove it.

definitely something you want to discover at home and not stuck miles away with a puncture and no chain tool in your bag. heh.

  • haha yeah, nothing seems shittier than having a puncture and a super tight chain that gives u a hard time

  • This is great.

What's your approx saddle height in that photo? Trying to gauge if a 59 Steamroller would be too small.

  • I measure 192cm and have an inseam of about 99cm,distance of center of bb to saddle is approx. 84cm.

  • Thanks!

My saddle height is approx 1cm lower than yours, so should be spot on.

  • Here’s my steamroller. It’s so much fun to ride.

  • It’s a YES! from me.

  • I had mine back in 2016 - 2017, started fairly stock but ended up with a front disc conversion. Doing fixed gravel before fixed gravel was cool!

  • If anyone is looking to offload a 56 (I'm 6ft, so that should be about right I think) 'roller, preferably black let me know? Looking for frame or frame and fork.

  • This build inspired me to buy a steamroller. Currently on a hunt for a carbon disc fork. Bike.spray fluo pink/orange splatter* job happening in a few weeks too…

  • Bike.spray

    Ugh don’t ruin it

  • Ha just a splatter nothing major !!

  • Spray bike is wank; @M_V what’s the stuff you use?

  • I use Montana paint.

Other than a crackle that didn't crackle (and I supsect that was due to low temperature and insufficient dry time) I haven't really any complaints about the paint.

  • @El_Topo The cream looks in pretty good condition, were you planning on just splattering over the top of it rather then a whole new paintjob?

  • Cream is in really good condition yes! And exactly, just splatter job on top. Any tips/recommendations ?

  • If you’re doing multiple colours I’d let one dry (at least partially) before doing the next.

Maybe do a bit of practice to figure out how you’ll get the splatters you like.

I generally use a bit of some kind of plastic card, like an old back card. Cut into strips. Dip and flick.

Whipping the card at the frame tends to make heavier splatters. Pinging the card at the frame makes finer splatters but you can get a bit of splash back so be appropriately dressed.

A brush like a toothbrush or brass brush for cleaning suede shoes can do more of a fine spray, bit more consistent than splatter.

There’s also a sort of sponging technique you can do with cling film. Wad it up, spray paint on it and dab on the frame.

And Montana do a limited no of colours of ‘marble’ paint that come out the can all stringy.

    Green cinelli was brass brush.

Pink and turquoise was wiping and flicking a card.

Orange and black is orange base with black marble over.

Green and black bmx is the dabbing cling film technique.

  • Hella classy! What wheels/rims you got there?

  • Light bicycle or Farsport carbon something or other built by Arkane. 35c GK's come up about 37mm on them. Very nice to ride on but far to swish for everyday use. Most likely going to be replaced with an old Kinlin XR22 wheelset for off roading and some Arkane Flirt's for commuting.
