  • I have had several letters and texts from ipso mori about testing for covid.

Seems to be missing that I have informed them I'm not UK and it is not sinking in. Anyone else want to be me?

  • ...and Sunday's PCR test from the ONS has just come back positive (first +ve for me in ~30 PCRs and ~100 lateral flows). No symptoms.

Cancelled outings for the rest of this week. Still awaiting results for wife and daughter...

Gave blood on the day of the PCR test too (just rang them to let them know).

  • No symptoms.

Today is day 4 (with the date of the swab being day 0).

Mild symptoms began on day 3, bit of a sniffle and a bit achy. Cough appeared late on Day 3 and disrupted my sleep last night.

Max strength cold and flu tablets (paracetamol, phenylephrine) seem to be taking the edge off it.

Still fine to work although brain not firing 100%.

Get to do a lateral flow tomorrow (day 5) and need two consecutive days of negative lateral flow to be deemed clear.

(Triple jabbed [AZ, AZ, Pfizer] and otherwise in good health. Not knowingly had Covid before.)

  • Day 5. Lateral flow is ... positive. Joy.

Mild sore throat remains, along with the annoying occasional cough.

(Work trip coming up in 10 days. Those "Proof of recovery" letters are a £££ making sham aren't they. I upload the proof of positive test, they check it's been more than 10 days since that test, then I self certify that I don't have any more symptoms, and they give me an emailed certificate. All of that for a mere ~£60 that's probably entirely automated.

(Obviously won't be going if I'm still testing positive or still have symptoms closer to the trip...)

  • No one I know has got out before 10 days.

  • Yeah, the recent two data points I know of were 11 days and 14 days to exit.

Another friend (who I haven't seen for weeks, so unrelated infection to mine) is still trucking on day 9.

  • It's really ripped through my friends recently, only some of them plausibly linked. Probably >10 people I know have had it since the new year and done a full 10 days.

  • Know a few people who got the last big wave of Delta in November/December and have now enjoyed a round of Omicron.

My brother in law logged off from work yesterday to start a 3 month sabbatical and should have been on a plane to South America as I type this....+LFT this morning means he's going nowhere soon.

So we're now in a situation where you need to be careful to do anything in the two to three weeks leading up to anything important, need to think twice about doing anything because of how much it's going to cost and you may need those savings for when hyper inflation really kicks in, all against the backdrop of impending nuclear war and pictures of maternity hospitals being bombed to shit.

    It's grim out there.

  • I tested negative on day 7 and 8 just this week. Symptoms were incredibly mild cold. Timing was fucking awful as we're currently mid-way through a bathroom rennovation so I couldn't just isolate at home. Had to go and hole-up in a mate's empty flat in Earlsfield (cycled there) which was all a bit grim, but over now....

  • Earlsfield

Urgh - how did you survive?

  • That'll be your 8 weeks worth of vaccine protection waning. Its a shame really that so many healthy people have potentially F'ed up their immune systems. Many of my work colleagues aren't faring so well at the moment with colds/coughs/coldsores etc that they can't seem to shake off.
Incidentally did you all see the pfizer docs they've released under FOIA while everyone is looking in the other direction? These are the ones they wanted withheld for 75yrs.

  • In a way, I admire your persistence

  • Barely. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.

  • (thinking of waning protection)
Are there any plans for rolling boosters? My dad had his ages ago and he's pretty much ignoring covid even exists now so I'm a bit worried about him getting it.

  • Missed out on all that, my vaccination must have been just saline :)

  • Its a shame really that so many healthy people have potentially F'ed up their immune systems.

Indeed, and all they had to do was get a jab in their arm.

  • Don't forget the free 5G connectivity too!

  • Day 6, faint positive so no escape yet. Slept almost 13h last night so hopefully it's a sign that the body has fought off the majority of it.

Needed ALL THE CLOTHES AND HATS after I got up despite the thermostat being set to 20.5 deg C and rest of family wandering round in shorts and t-shirt.

  • Covid got me, two years of avoiding it and one messy stag do in crowded bars and clubs was all it took. Who wuda thunk it.

Faint positive LFT on Thursday with quite strong fever and tiredness, so I'm counting that as my first day of isolation.

I did have a slight sore throat Tuesday and Wednesday, but not sure if that counts?

  • A friend of mine in Netherlands was put on a ventilator last week. 28 years old, athlete levels of fitness and no underlying conditions. Only one vaccine dose, recently reformed vaccine sceptic.

Heartbreaking although his GF has been told that his lungs are responding well to treatment whatever that means so I'm really hopeful that he might be going in the right direction.

  • Aw :(

    Hope he recovers ok.

  • Day 7, haven't done test yet, only just up. Was awake for a whole 8h yesterday (11am to 7pm) and just woke up after another monster (14h) sleep. Slept in extra layers too and still felt cold.

Stonehedge, hope your friend recovers well and quickly!

Day 7 lateral flow. Negative (well, still have 6 minutes left to wait for the full 30 minutes).

  • Not that much fun by the sound of it, more like a flu than cold.

    Get well soon :)
