Explorer last page and now Portugueiser 🥺

I said I preferred your Explorer to the current reference! Re the IWC, I was merely comparing prices. The Portugueiser and Breitling are relatively similarly specced and kind of share the same design philosophy as far as Chrono's go and the Breitling is a fair bit cheaper, that is all. No Portugueiser shade.

Hard agree
Weren't you a bit shrug about them when you tried one on? Something about the pushers not feeling good.

Didn’t realise the Portugueiser is now £7.5k!

The pusher feel is the one thing I didn’t like about it. Other than that (and the list price) I think it’s a pretty good effort. Definitely looks better IRL than in pics.
Dial is a true pistachio colour (not as grey as it appears in some pictures), and looks really nice. Lots of depth to it. Wears well despite looking really thick from the side. Movement also looked nice but I didn’t like the feel of the pushers. There was a lot of springy travel before the click, and the click itself felt quite light, weak almost. Bit odd.
Nice watch overall, with a dark grey suede strap it would look very classy.

It's easy to double the value of a Seiko. You just have to make it run backwards. Sold for £466. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/-/393938914167?mkevt=1&mkcid=16&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&media=GMAIL&sojTags=media%3Dmedia

Seen them in the Breitling window near home, the cherry sunburst dial is also very attractive..
Seems quite Patek Philippesque tough..

Definitely no hurry, but wondering what route to take on this family hand-me-down. Are identical crystals available any more? Does this amount of spotting look bad? I think I'm okay with it...

If it's acrylic crystal and just scratches you can polish it v easily - polywatch - takes about 5 mins (depending on how deep the scratches are).

Y'know I have some, I'd forgotten. Good thought.

I should have mentioned, it's a ref. 14734-1-SC with a calibre 610, dated 1959 or 1960. It runs, but with no history I'm not running it.

How did you find out the ref? I have a slightly similar watch in similar condition - also a family watch (my fathers).

Should be on the inside of caseback.

Thanks. I will get a jeweller to have a look.

Quite so, very thoughtfully numbered, these. Also, cal. and serial on the movement...

Nice thing to have, post here when you find out.

Will do. I have been enquiring as to getting it serviced but haven’t come up with a good plan yet. I’m in NI and reluctant to post it following the loss of a good watch some time ago.

Not usually into red watches but this does look nice. Don't know why they put everything on a brown strap though, Oris do this a lot as well and it puts me off. Obviously can be swapped out easily but no my favourite on a watch, unless tonally matching with the dial.

Haven’t worn this since pre-Covid.
