Nope. Playlist management on tidal is whack.

I went down the digital & dsp route, room correction and that sort of thing.
Yeah that’s the route my pal has gone. He’s running a fairly basic class D amp but speakers with self-measured Thiele and Small parameters, with room correction with dsp that he just measured using a basic microphone. If I’m completely frank, I think his self-corrected setup sounds better than my other mate’s hifi which runs well into 5 figures.
Fascinating stuff and I had no idea how easy it is to do now. I think back how hard it was to accurately measure Thiele and Small on a speaker when I was at school, sat there with a signal generator and scope borrowed from the Physics department and bits of blutac and still not managing it!

I run a little PA system too so I've gradually learnt about it as the tech has developed. I have one of the simple room correction mics, it was £100. The REW software is free. It's been working pretty well for me.

Cheers. I just used tunemymusic from there, paid them $4.50 for the pleasure, and it imported 98% of my stuff. The remaining 2% was stuff that doesn't appear in Tidal, so I guess it works well for what it is.
Spotify account is now deleted - needed to use a little chat-bot thing but it was quick and easy. -

annoying thing is I had all my spotify playlists very organised, by folder etc - and that organisation isn't copied over : /

Any tips/links for repairing an amp or getting one repaired?
I got an Arcam 3 Alpha (1994!) for £50 off eBay last year but recently the right channel is crackling and dropping in and out. The few places I have enquired are suggesting that repair will be in the region of £85 (or£60/hour at audio gold). I appreciate the skills required and the lack of skill;ed people to do the work but I need a cheaper option and I am keen not to dispose of this for what seems like a minor issue.
Cheers! -

If it happens when you adjust controls it might be worth using contact cleaner as a starting point to clean all the pots/switches.
-
• #11109
I have cleaned them already :( It comes in and out as the record is playing. I think it's a loose connection or a temperamental transistor

Not sure what mbp is - if it can write images so the Pi reads them, then all good, but I found a cheap SD adapter that plugs into a phone and an android app then worked for me. Just get the latest version of Volumio and it works pretty well.
-
• #11111
I can't quantify it but having tried a few different Rpi wireless streaming options, Volumio has been the least successful at being there when I want it, especially via Spotify.
In terms of similar offerings, Moode has been much better though the interface is a little less user friendly.
RopieeeXL has easily felt the most stable but requires BubbleUPnP for streaming from a local source (fine by me).
-
• #11112
Ropieee is all I've used because it integrates so well with Roon. I used to be running the XL version but don;t need the other features for the moment.
I did have a problem caused by an SD card at one point. New card and the problem went away.

• #11113
I never had any issues with stability with volumio when I used it, although it was only for local streaming. Power supplies are often a cause of instability with Raspberry Pis (not just the adapter but the cable too).

Have you done the usual debugging? Tried a different set of inputs, speakers on the other set of speaker connectors, tried it with headphones?

Mbp=MacBook Pro.
First time round the built in thing worked. Maybe the pi is broken, who knows. -
• #11116
Unlikely the pi is broken isn't it? I thought the point of them is that they're pretty unbreakable...
-
• #11117
I will try it with headphones! I have switched around the inputs and whatnot but thanks for the tip!

Suns out, humidity is super low. Perfect day for washing records!
Been using one of those disgo antistat tanks for ages. Work well, label can get wet if your not careful, made a giant O-ring retainer that helps keep most labels dry, but honestly would prefer records to not have dirt and 30-70 years worth of fag smoke baked into them than a 'discoloured label so value is lower'

Wonder if this is related?

Oh, and try it with the direct button depressed also, as that bypasses the balance circuity (in case that's an issue).
You should be able to work out what is/isn't an issue by doing all of those things to start.Next recommendation would be open it up. I think you've already said you've nuked the switches and dials with contact cleaner? After that, look at the RCA jacks and speaker connectors for loose solder joints onto the circuit board. Also check to see there isn't any obvious capacitor issues (leaking or bulging).
-
• #11121
It's difficult to properly clean most pots unless you desolder, disassemble and clean them. Occasionally it's a dry solder joint which is easy enough to fix. Most of the job is dismantling the case and getting access to both sides of the board.

Removal of soft furnishings + lots of random defusing boxy objects = very lively detailed sound
Not sure I could live with it long term though, fingers crossed we won’t be in a permanent state of moving house so it shouldn’t be a problem.

My Tannoy Eaton's finally arrive next week.
And it's bad timing, as I've just had the room that they'll go into painted and so there's no furniture, shelving, or anything in there. It's just a cold box of a room for another week or two.
They're going to sound terrible 🤣.
-
• #11125
Did they make then to order!? Seems like months ago that you went on that decision making journey.
Just chuck a load of boxes in the room.
I totally get the attraction, especially building your own. I built 2 preamps based around a simple op amp design. I still use them now.
I went down the digital & dsp route, room correction and that sort of thing.
I like to hear overdriven guitar amp valves on vinyl and a digital system can deliver that well enough.
