Friend of mine walked into an AD and bought an Explorer at list - is this A Thing That Happens, or is that blind luck on his part?

That’s definitely lucky - though what I would say is there seems to be a little more confidence in getting hold of the more sought after watches. 2020 I was told very, very unlikely to be able to get a sub, now that has changed to possibly this year 😂
