Yes.

But also, how much longer is the reach on those newer STIs? Say this GRX vs 8050? Looks a lot longer thats for sure.

About 5mm longer, Di2 GRX and 12 speed. But they're slimmer and the feel is a lot more progressive unlike the on/off action of the rest of shimano.
