  • Attached is some of my collection of movie posters.
These are all modern alternates to (generally) older movies.

These are the ones on Expresso Beans (terrible name), I have a few that are not on there to add to my portfolio.

Most are flat stored in a folder, but some are framed on the wall (probably 13 or so around the house)

  • They are great!
Love a Japanese poster, I like the unfamiliar lettering, but obvious what they are advertising due to the art work

  • Puts me to shame, we just have four small prints in the hallway

  • There’s lots of posters I covet, especially the Polish ‘Alien’ one, but don’t own any aside from a the Moon one above my desk.

I do have a Blade Runner piece if artwork that has pride of place above the telly though, and I’m getting the Bladerunner VHS artwork - someone threw a tape into a my skip - framed at the moment.

  • Polish film posters can be quite different, usually drawn by soneone who had not seen the film and based only a description of what happens.

I have a small number of Polish posters, including Taxi Driver (I collect Taxi Driver posters) and that Alien facehugger.

  • The price of some of those Michael Caine prints…

I forgot we also have a Jack Cardiff original of Sophia Loren on the back wall, no point getting it valued because we’d never sell it.

  • Watching it now and it’s excellent - thanks for the recommendation.

The ‘mondo’ Austin TX stuff has instantly reminded me of the SFT which I sorely miss. Anyone on here go to those showings? Moved about a bit, but went to IoL in London Fields and The Castle was its latest resting place. I pray for its revival.

  • Wanting this very much but need to strike it lucky for that money. Maybe I’ll get a knock off, but it’s not the same.

A friend of mine’s father worked on the sound editing on Alien 1979 and there was an original Geiger artwork in their house which must have been a very early version of the poster. I remember it vividly - it was the egg like on the actual poster, but had a Xenomorph hand wrapped around it. I don’t think I ever discussed it with my friend or his dad but it was/is so unimaginably cool and desirable. I’ll find out where it is one day - I’d just love to see it again.

  • It was, in my opinion, sensational. Especially in IMAX. Astonishingly beautiful. More of a noir thriller than a superhero movie, which is great, cause I am so not into superhero movies.
Zoe Kravitz and R Pats on screen chemistry is superb.

  • See the thing I hate that its been folded, which is shite. You could send it away to a poster restoration place but ive never done it and I imagine its expensive to get it backed and fixed.

  • There is a UK quad sized one coming up on the Prop Store auction
    Estimate is £2-300.
If it goes for £300, you'll have about another £90 on top, so a little cheaper than the eBay one (but no means cheap)
If no one goes for it and the opening bid gets it, it'll be £130 with on costs.

  • Watching Blade tonight. Just as fucking cool, fun and awesome as I remember it being.

  • Yeah, quite enjoyed Batman. Wonderfully shot, and whilst the 3rd act is a bit predictable I'd say it hold ups. Pattinson, Farrell and Dano are great casts

  • Damn that's a lot a cool collection. If you ever want to get rid of True Romance one, give me a shout.

  • watching a very strange Icelandic film with Naomi Rapace and lots of sheep.

  • Just watched Good Time. Really excellent, can’t decide if I wish I’d watched it before Uncut Gems of after. I think this way worked well actually, as the brothers Safdie pushed it even further in UG which is why it seemed so fresh and different.

Think I preferred Good Time actually. The weird Innerspace sequences in UG were a bit much. Looking forward to seeing what they do next.

  • Follow on from the poster chat, I really remember going to the independent video shops locally to rent stuff and enjoying looking at the movies that I knew not to even ask about. Toxic Avenger, Hellraiser and I remember this and thinking WTAF as an 8 year old or whatever. Imagine that on display anywhere these days!?

  • Absolutely love Hellraiser. Haven’t watched in a few years and need to give that another spin.

  • This is the one I fished out of the skip. Not sure when it changed, but the BBFC ratings didn’t originally have the watermark. It was just a red circle with the rating in it. And that looked way cooler.

  • That sort of artwork must be very rare. Taken me ages just to find one example, but all releases were like this for a time. On Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Board_of_Film_Classification - there isn’t a description of how it evolved from ‘X’ to 18 etc, but there must have been a transitional point where the current ratings came in and the more basic artwork was used before the watermark versions were standardised. My god, this is such ‘internets forum’ talk, but I genuinely have such strong memories about it.

  • I was always terrified by “the church” poster and VHS case

  • Changed from 1984 onwards. VHS produced before is know as a “precert” and will generally carry no rating at all on the box. Rental stores were made to add stickers or small roundells to tapes to conform with the change in law.

Tapes mid to late 80s would have the non-watermarked age ratings

Will give you some insight into the moral panic that gripped the nation and brought about the changes in film censorship.

I collect VHS and have done a fair bit of research into why/when tapes changed and what makes them desirable.

The highlander sleeve you have is from a collection known as “warner pulse” - they were retail (sell-thru) tapes that were for direct sale to the public. Generally not desirable by collectors but some like them as when displayed they look nice on a shelf.
