How about looking for a second hand (real) turtle? They are not that expensive right?
-
• #61729

Can you get them to recreate the Michael Caine pose from that photo...? Otherwise what was the point in buying the watch!

Lovely. Looks like a Heuer design before the Tag-Heuer management started with their fiddling. IMO the Heuer range was the best looking range in the business. Even better than Rolex.

The more I wear it and read it, the more it grows on me.

Thank you. I feel incredibly fortunate, had a run of crap to deal with lately (god, who hasn't?) so thought it was time to treat myself. I really fell for a Tag that I had the opportunity to steal (but didn't, I hasten to add) around 20 odd years ago !

I do like that Tag in a Tag Heuer way, but I don't think it looks like a pre-Tag, Heuer, at all.

I love the old Heuer Skippers. Would totally wear a repro.

It's from the (sort of) crossover period when Tag-Heuer hadn't yet come out with new designs. One of the first things they did was ruin the Heuers (in my eyes) with a coloured Tag-Heuer logo. Which is what they did to this red diver. But they didn't quite ruin it because the logo goes rather well with the dial. The bezel has a nice, clean unfussy design, which makes it partly a Heuer to me, not a full Tag. I actually get emotional about this because I lost my Tag Heuer 2000, with a beautiful grey dial with uncoloured logo, when a minicab driver knocked me off my motorbike and nicked the watch while I was lying in the road. When I tried to replace it with a new one I found the design had been ruined by adding colours to the logo.

From the buyer:
Yep just been to see it in person for the first time today and arrange shipping, had really good feedback from the auctioneers who said that the sale was a huge success and lots of very envious ppl in the rooms, phones and online who didn't land that one, so even though it went for so much I think that as it's such an iconic piece then it will probably hold it's value in the long term, not that I'd ever be selling it anyway, the sale was all lots sold and so much interest that it took many times longer than was expected and everyone seems to have heard about it from black cabbies to maitre de-s.

Can't post that one too much, it's absolutely ace!

Damn that's nice
I am not a Tag fan, and generally don't like busy dials or red dials.
But the sum of those dislikes are strangely good!
