Going for a day in mid-May, possibly able to extend an extra couple of days.
Did not see this coming...

Any recommendations on helmets. Dont fancy renting then anymore. Don't want to spend £100s but also it's definitely a good idea to protect my noggin.

Try some on, bring your goggles and make sure they fit. Also check if your hood on your ski jacket can go over the helmet, worth it in a blizzard on a slow moving ski lift....
You want vents that can open and close
MIPS is a nice to have, gives extra protection
And most importantly make sure it looks cool and you have a suitably garish colour

First day at the Grand Massif (Flaine). We are staying in Samoens. Oh the queues. Apparently Dutch school holidays. 15 minute queues at 3 successive lifts out and 2 on the way back.

As Punkture says, fit is key. A badly fitting expesive helmet won't protect as well as a well fitting cheap one.
Having said that, I like helmets that have some kind of multi-impact material. Either through using a closed cell foam, EPP instead of EPS or a D3O insert etc... Ski helmets take a lot of knock from transport, falling off tables, someone bringing the lift bar down too quickly on your head, that I think it's a worthwhile feature. -

Sweet Protection got a sale on atm. Some serious deals on older models, some >£100 MIPS too, some of them.

Not that it helps you but I think this is the ladt week of school hols. Interseting about the Dutch, we've seen hardly any (like 1 or 2 groups) in Serre Che, always used to be loads. Maybe cos we've got no snow...
How're the conditions there? Think the North Alps have had a lot more snow than here -

Thanks people for the above insight. Will put all in account when looking for helmets got midland diving center near my house which it a skate and snowboard store so will go in person Rather than online so I can get a good fitting one.

I really like Smith helmets and goggles. They fit really well together and are designed to prevent any gap between helmet and goggles which both looks better and keeps you warmer.
Also depending on the helmet model, but you can get headphone inserts for the helmet ear pads do you can listen to music without having anything in your ears.
I have the Holt helmet which is cheap but you can get others for under 100 with mips if you shop around.

Good point here. Gap between helmet and goggles is not acceptable

Isn't this about as useful as headphones while cycling in traffic? Why not hear what's going on around you? Could save you from a crash. Plus you get the awesome sound of skiing / boarding.

Headed out to Tignes on Saturday for my first trip, but managed to tweak my back so feeling pretty anxious about getting back to full mobility.

That’s the benefit of the speakers not being in your ears imo. I don’t always ski with music but sometimes it really accentuates the feeling.
And if you’re going to get hit from behind, there’s not much you can do about it anyway, other than just ski faster!

I'm a no music skier unless it's the SSX3 soundtrack, in which case it's up to 11.

Dammit, they're 46.
Have been meaning to sell these Alpinas for a while. Just don't use them. Brand new, stickers still on too.

Ohh they look fancy and would have been such overkill. I definitely need 44 or poss slightly smaller , will be my 2nd time on skinny skis , first time I was in shoes too big which was my excuse when my missus was much better than me ..

I'll let you in on a secret. I only don't use them because I'm a 44 and they're too big for me.
Still this.
