  • That's what is what's thinking, prices have risen a bit in the past few years then.

  • Roof down for lower CoG? ;)

  • If the sun's out, the roof is down!

  • Here's another one of me having too much fun

  • Haha - love it!

  • @NurseHolliday is a madman, an absolute gent and puts together a wicked fun little car!

Life did flash before my eyes a couple of times when I was riding shotgun but what a corker of day out. Couple of his mates were kind enough to let me have a drive in their cars (another MX-5 and an MR2) which really made the day, but now I'm browsing AT, FB marketplace and the auction site for an MR2...

We should definitely try to get a track day with a few more people from on here out, or maybe karting will be slightly easier to organise?

  • Is 996 the new forum approved vehicular successor to Honda Jazz?

  • I think the smell of death is milder, but admit I may not be the person to ask.

They’re the cheapest (and therefore most usable) 911, but they are increasing in price as their cohort succumb to rot, crashes, poor maintenance and engine failure.

  • Looked at a load in uk a few year back. Only one I would have personally bought was from a local scrappy. Mechanic there had made a greatest hits car out of every nice one he every saw go through his yard. Replaced engine due to split liners, was one of first people to get a liner brace and bottom end girdle made up, moderate tune and then put new 4c dampers on it. Was dark met blue with the bright orange interior. Should have bought it lol.

Normally would say uk over Japanese import. But with these things, get the absolute best and lowest milage one you can. And then still budget for a moderate engine rebuild in time. They don't rust, they don't habe many gremlins apart from Cem/clock springs going bad, abs system just being an older car (rings go as does various bits of wiring), dash display are apl broken by now. Radio most of them are dead by now. Just replace with a double din alpine android nav job.
The mk1 850 and v70 are starting to actively outlive the mk2 which is crazy lol.

They are fun though, just got to live with 22 to 28 mpg on the real world.

  • Hah, quite possibly!

I have always had a soft spot for them though, probably as they were released around the time I was learning to drive

  • For me, the roof is down unless it's a long motorway drive, or it's pissing down and I have traffic lights to deal with.

Driving during snow with the roof down is wonderful

  • Loved doing that in the T Bar AW11 and X1/9.

Anyway, do we listen to you and the cold?

  • I had a 1987 AW11, handled quite well but compared to my methanol injected Impreza was a bit gutless. Mind you I'd have it back in a flash. Reg was E522 DFV. Wonder where it is now?

  • Always find this when i jump in something new (2018 on approx). Throttle pedal isn't connected to the engine, guess its too do with emmisons, taking away the drivers ability to dump fuel into an engine that isn't ready for it, so it won' burn it the cleanest so it just doesn't let you.
My 25 year old diesel daily has flu by wire/electric throttle pedal but response is proper instant, not fast, but more direct to drive.

  • maybe karting will be slightly easier to organise

In! I look forward to being overtaken repeatedly.

  • I actually bought a 2006 V70 T5 yesterday. It’s a manual with the space ball shifter and it’s in really good nick. Went up to Stoke with the old man and picked it up and then ran it back down to Barry last night with no issues. It needs a new rear wiper motor by the looks of it and maybe a couple of other bits but she runs really nice. I’ve got a mountain of service records to go through properly this week and I’ll probably give it to a pal of mine to see if there is anything that needs doing immediately.

It goes like shit off a shovel.

  • That's what is what's thinking, prices have risen a bit in the past few years then.

Give me a shout when you're next in London/London adjacent and you can take mine out for a spin.

  • Cheers, that is very kind - will take you up on that hopefully later this summer

  • if any of you are interested in my 5 series estate (E61) - let me know. 106k miles, petrol, auto, towbar, roofracks, etc.

i am jumping on the company car train...

  • Congrats on the car.

  • Not brave enough for the miscellaneous classified thread ;)

Though of you the other day, how is the mg going on? Thought of you as I met a guy here that had bought a fully restored mg and ended up doing the same as you. Feels like he should have started with a wreck.

  • MG is going on the rolling road on Monday. Almost done. Just needs belts and firestuff.
