  • My mates stolen bike has just turned up for sale on fb market place. What’s the best plan of action from anyone that has had a successful outcome ?!

  • Pose as a stranger and arrange to buy it.
Then either try to pass the info to the police including the meeting time and place, proof of ownership etc, or turn up with as many mates as you can and take it back.

  • Still on the lookout for this -

My pal confessed to me that she lost her bike in the summer.

Its a Ribble made from Reynolds 653 with Cinelli lugs, painted in a slightly pearlescent white. Black Ribble decals on seat tube and silver on the downtube. Drive side internal routing.

Shimano 105 headset, bit notchy from what I remember, Cinelli 1a Stem to Giro Di Italia bars I think. Light Grey bartape. White hoods Shimano 105.

Full Shimano 7 speed 1055 groupset from what I remember, downtube shifters etc. Silver Mavic MA Rims and standard black tyres. Triple 105 crankset.

Apparently my friend left it outside a Panda Oriental Islington, between Clissold and Newington Green early september while on shrooms... le sigh.

Here it is before we switched the bar tape up

If anyone has picked it up I would happily compensate them for a safe return.

Alternatively if you have seen it around or for sale please shoot me a pm.

    Thanks
    H

  • Same happened to me some time ago. Admittedly posted for sale by a good man who bought it in good faith. I bought it back for what he paid.
If I were you and it’s worth it, just buy it back, but offer as little as possible.Chances of police help is negligent

Of course - my views exclusively

  • Anyone lost a rather distinctive Kona Paddy Wagon? This is on FB marketplace and is as dodgy as fuck.

  • Sad times;
My bike got swiped from the common area outside my flat around 7pm yesterday (1/3).

It was lent behind my flatmate's bicycle and locked through the frame & back wheel, so was carried away.

SilverNitto bars and cranks (with some wear on both cranks near the pedals) , black seatpost and stem (both quite worn & scratched), Seabass Cycles sticker on the seatube. Small dent in the front rim, marked with white tape.

  • a colleague of mine had his bikes stolen from his shed last week up in north Leicestershire (there were lots of bike thefts from sheds reported during the last few days here apparently)
a blue synapse, and a black boardman, both size 58.
unfortunately not really any distinguishing identifiers on either, except the mismatched bottle cages on the cannondale.

what makes this even more of a pisser is that he's currently training for a charity lejog ride, and the bikes weren't covered by his home insurance.

cheeky link to his fundraiser in case anyone can spare a few quid -

  • Just checking not yours? V much doubt it and yours doesn’t look like a 54 but these are fairly rare and it’s same area….hence thought worth a check. Listing sounds fairly legit.

  • Nooo. Mine was a 58cm!(will update post) But I had the same initial shock when I saw that bare frame! 😳

Thanks for keeping an eye out ♥️

  • WE GOT THE RITCHEY BACK!!!!

  • Amazing! Can you give more details? Love a happy ending.

  • nice! the one from FB marketplace? how did you get it back?

  • Mates bike got taken in Shadwell couple of nights ago, it's an iridescent orange Monshee , bit hard to read because of chipped paint, small scruffy frame with level gears and a back rack..

  • @BCarley Initially my mate tried dealing with the police after a promising few conversations and email exchanges but ultimately went nowhere. Another friend took it upon himself to message on fb and arranged a meet up in Peckham outside a pub. A group of us sat separately with drinks outside, spotted the guy turning up with the ritchey and a mate on a bike half an hour early checking out the meet up spot, it suddenly all felt very dodgy. Rang the police explaining the situation but they couldn't say whether they would come... The seller tried to get our friend to meet down an alley, but he played ignorance in the area. In the end he felt safe to approach the guy outside the pub, who thankfully turned up by himself. He asked to feel the weight of the bike then told the guy that it was stolen, that the police where on their way and a table full of his mates sitting right there. The guy turned and left immediately. Bike retrieved minus a few parts. Police turned up 45 mins later lol

  • excellent news + story
