  • It was seeing how well the Klein stuff was made that started me down this rabbit hole tbh.
The design and layout of the veto stuff just seems vastly superior tho. I like the look of this
    https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/4837708-tradesman-pro-tool-master-backpack
But it’s mental money, and seems awkward the way it’s all laid out.

  • So wheels are out then?

  • Ive got a veto backpack as my servicing bag and its class. Lot of cash but built so well and frees up your hands too.

  • Hilti resin bolts
    Thunder bolts
    RAWLPLUG R-KEM11-175-KIT STYRENE-FREE POLYESTER RESIN
    Fischer Fis V

Excellent, cheers all, there is hope. Shall update next weekend.

  • Worth keeping an eye on https://www.powertoolmate.co.uk/storage/velocity/

They stock a decent amount of velocity stuff, and often have deals on (they had 5% off site wide this weekend for example)

If you are on Facebook it is worth joining this group https://www.facebook.com/groups/powertoolmateexclusivedeals as they do post decent deals in there.

  • Need to find out more about velocity packs. They look like a UK equivalent of Veto, which hopefully makes them cheaper if they’re not coming over from America. Less keen if they’re inferior tho!

  • This is the feedback I wanted tbh. Don’t mind spending if I know it’s the dogs bollocks

  • My brother who is a mobile plant mechanic uses one and really rates it, and given that he has to trek across fields to diggers with it, it gets plenty of abuse!

  • Deffo sounds like a rough life for a toolbag, worth investigating.

  • The company I'm talking to with regards to solar panels advise that I should mount them at 38 degrees to the horizontal, but that they don't supply anything to achieve this.

I could make a frame using aluminium extrusions and rivets, then bond it onto the roof - does that sound like a reasonable approach?

  • Milwaukee has a backpack with loads of pockets inside. I love mine.
Had a computer tech visit at work, he had identical backpack but black instead of Milwaukee red, and branded HP.

  • What's the existing roof covering? The trick will be to get a good fixing on to the roof without fucking up the existing weather proofing. Is there any brickwork you could fix to instead?

I'm tempted to try something like this on the roof of our garden palace (shed). What kind of panels are you going for? How much juice do they deliver?

  • The company I'm talking to

Surely there should be lots of other companies that do supply them?

That dreamy climbing guy with the converted transit and MM's of YouTube views has an adjustable alu frame for his solar panels.

  • Anyone ever patched up an actually ancient Velux window?
Its a 'GGL-8' from defo before 1991. Guy at Velux said its the oldest one anyone has rung about this year, so I guess I get a prize.

Photos not of actual window, can't get to outside with 4 stories of scaff. Leaks in through the handle/vent as the 1) top casing cover plate is full on missing, been blown away some years ago and been steadily leaking ever since. If the wind is in the wrong direction is like someone pouring from a bucket, rest of time its very small amount.

Anyone repaired these? Or shall I just get the local roof guy to do a pro lead work job and totally cover the area thats mean't to be covered by this part. Rest of window is 100% fine and does its job nicely.

  • Ive also got a velocity toolbag for my soldering and bigger tools and while its ok. The bag without tools was heavy as fuck and its not as well made as the veto imo. Id have probs not got the velocity if I had bought the veto first.

  • I can see your problem right there m8, your roof's made of QuickStep laminate flooring with cardboard flashing.

  • I was looking at this setup.

The roof of the garages is standard bitumen felt stuff, whatever it's really called, and I was going to bond the frame to the roof using Black Jack roof cement.

  • Any one tried the flomasta version of fernox lsx?

    What is your opinion?

  • Think have the same window here. DM me a number and I can send photos of the windows here.

Got a bit of knowledge from fixing leaks caused by missing trim on the side. Luckily the trim was in the gutter. All the screws had rusted tho.

  • I wouldn't rely on just that to ix to the roof, might be ok for small items but I would imagine the first bit of strong wind and they'd be off!
Proper way would be to break through the existing rood finish and create a upstand which could be fixed to the garage roof structure and the frame fixed tot the top and new waterproof layer bonded to the top of the existing roof and up and over the new upstand.

Easy way would be some sandbags or similar heavyweights on the frame of the PV panels and not touch the roof membrane.

Is the condition of existing roof finish ok?

  • I was going to bond the frame to the roof using Black Jack roof cement.

That looks more like it's for repairs like a bitumen in a tin, rather than a fixing / bonding compound.

To stop the thing wandering off (theft / in the wind) you'll need to fix it to something mechanically. You could create upstands then bolt them to the existing the roof surface (possibly ply over a wood structure), then fix the frame in to those. Could just be a block of treated or hardwood wrapped in roofing felt. That cement would be useful to seal it, both to the existing roof surface and where you bolt something to it.

  • @ Pryally - Hard to say, it's under a load of vegetation, but I think so.

  • Black Jack is just a paint-on waterproof membrane. It might be tacky, but it's not an adhesive.

  • I'm just very wary of compromising the membrane, hence thinking of bonding to it.

However, the external wall does continue above the level of the roof, so I could drill into that to fix the frame, then waterproof the holes using some sort of sealant.

  • Hah, ok - not that then.
