Not that war really has silver linings, but if Putin fucks this then could there hopefully be a bit of blowback on Trump as he's such a fan of his genius moves, supporting Russians like he does surely doesn't sit right with Americans that likely grew up with cold war anti Russian sentiment but are now prime Trump gammons, at least if the wheels come off Putin's administration and the world survives.

least if the wheels come off Putin's administration
And is replaced by what?
Better the devil you know - totally emasculating Russia over this - even if justified - could result in something far, far worse.

Tweet deleted. Nothing on news yet about Norway but I hope it’s true

Does this hold true when they are threatening nuclear escalation and deploying thermobaric bombs for use on the civilian population of cities?

That's above my pay grade, purely thinking about Trumps, even a continuing but obviously not genius Putin might have affects.

Dunno.
But I think there’s a balancing act here - getting rid of Putin and his crew suddenly and violently (as in popular uprising due to the effect of sanctions or a coup) will open the door to god knows what. Better to weaken him so he can limp along until a less crazy successor or even a semi democratic government is viable.

Here's a Google translation that seems to work decently well.
The sell off of assets is a fire sale of about €2,500,000,000 worth Russian investments with no regard to the losses incurred by selling at rock bottom prices. Might not be Russia's biggest problem at the moment, but it's the sort of thing that will be felt by the oligarchs.

Here’s how much trouble Putin is in.
When a hawk like David Frum balks at how much such tactics might damage Russia, it becomes obvious that Putin is squealing about nukes because Biden has his balls in a very firm grip.

I wonder if a message is being sent - to China.

Ah, I see. The EU has decided to "finance the purchase and delivery of weapons". That makes more sense since the EU doesn't have its own armed forces and stockpiles of weapons.

Can't wait till Patel starts using her new powers and takes away the citizenships of all those russian "businessmen". Or are they only brave enough to use it on children?

I think it’s a message to any potential aggressor - if you want to play in Western markets, then you’d better behave.
