  • You're not allowed to join Nato if you have an ongoing border dispute. Nato doesn't like the mutual defence clause to be invoked too easily. It's only happened once in Nato history, i.e. because of the 9/11 attack.

    (I was talking about Finland, I think you read this as Ukraine - it was a bit ambiguous)
