Vollering did everything wrong in the final kilometre though. Not that that diminishes Van Vleuten's win, but why sit on for 13 kms only to give a 150 metre turn in the final 700 metres and put yourself in the worst possible position for a sprint? I assume her distress after the finish was because she knew she'd messed it up.

Great ride by AVV. Never thought she'd hold off Vollering but kudos for doing so.
