    Tank units now have supporting Mechanised infantry to stop this, the pictures of Chernobyl had a BMP3 Infantry Fighting Vehicle with the tank.
    Soviet nomanclature was Motor Rifle units.
    There was also a BTR-80 Armoured Personal Carrier there which you wouldn’t expect to see at the point of an attack.
    News pictures are showing a lot of MTLBs which in Soviet days were quite rare command or artillery vehicles and viewed as prime targets. Could be it’s just the same ones shown repeatedly.
