Messenger and Twitter I saw.
BBC are doing a live OB from a Molotov cocktail making party. Massive packages of polystyrene home insulation being broken down for added awfulness.

How does polystyrene help in this, please?

If you Google it you will probably get put on a list. It burns very very unpleasantly.

Disovles in petrol to make it sticky.

If your molotov-cocktail is just burning fuel there is a risk that it runs off the target too quickly. But if you add plastic it will melt on the surface and the whole thing gets nice and sticky.

Thanks, and to the others that have replied. -

The Finns used to walk up to Russian tanks and lob a Molotov in the slit.

A lot of the videos on social media really bring home the sheer waste of war and the suddenness of death it brings. Some of captured Russians also seem to suggest they had no idea they were going to war until they crossed the Ukrainian border and until then had been told they were there to protect ethnic Russians. I know the Geneva convention doesn't allow these sort of interviews, but you can't help but believe that if they (and the untold images/videos of mashed up armour, trucks and men) somehow get back into Russia, the families of soldiers will have a lot to say about this "peacekeeping" exercise...

Was talking to a Finnish lad here who was already considering there is a chance this may be in his future too. 24 years old, waiting to go back to uni in a town near the Russian border.

thanks to @cozey link posted up thread, I chucked 50 bucks at prospect.org to see what the Americans have to say. Quite a bit, as it turns out. This is one of the most interesting articles I've read recently:
“It was totally predictable that NATO expansion would cause the most vigorous reaction on Russia’s part,” Matlock told me. “For those of us who ended the Cold War, this ruined the possibility of further collaboration.” George Kennan, still active in his nineties, called NATO expansion “the most fateful error of American policy in the entire post–Cold War era.”

Apparently the Ukrainians have created a hotline for Russian families to see if their loved one has been killed or captured as the Russian army is denying there have been many men killed or wounded (officially).

Is it naive to think that the uk and other european nations could have secreted a few special forces in to Ukraine before this came to a head?
Very. Sorry.
Pretty short sighted of them if not ..
Extremely short sighted if they'd done it. There's Putin saying "Ukraine is a puppet of the West, being used to threaten Russia" and there they'd have been, giving him perfect evidence for that.

The Finns used to walk up to Russian tanks and lob a Molotov in the slit.
Tank units now have supporting Mechanised infantry to stop this, the pictures of Chernobyl had a BMP3 Infantry Fighting Vehicle with the tank.
Soviet nomanclature was Motor Rifle units.
There was also a BTR-80 Armoured Personal Carrier there which you wouldn’t expect to see at the point of an attack.
News pictures are showing a lot of MTLBs which in Soviet days were quite rare command or artillery vehicles and viewed as prime targets. Could be it’s just the same ones shown repeatedly. -
