  • I built a simple site and use netlify to host it for free. You can handle contact forms as long as your expecting less than 100 per month, also for free.

More involved than carrd by the looks of it.

  • Looks perfect. Thanks

  • What's a good provide for hosting >1TB or data that I can access over SFTP?

I will be accessing this from my own VPS, which is about to run out of space & does not have easily scalable storage.

  • I need a new email host.
My website is with squarespace but i need someone for email.
It is with TSO host and it's a fucking nightmare. I don't get emails, some go to spam. It's causing me a headache. Who is good that will eliminate, before I go to gmail?

  • before I go to gmail

Why not go to gmail with your own domain name?

I went for Siteground for my tri club, but have gone for G Suite for the email.

  • Yeh that's what ive just done. Good thinking

  • Quick thread resuscitation -- I have been with LunarPages for years (which was bought by Host Papa last year I think) I just got to the end of a billing cycle, and it seems expensive at £230 /2 years. It's a good plan, and they have good customer service, so I'm not sure if its worth rocking the boat. Just wondering if anyone has any other recommends for a decent host with unlimited bandwidth and unlimited domains (though I only need around 10).

  • Who's fast and reliable UK Wordpress webhost these days? ie. not your bargain basement host for a blog, this is for a money-earning site where uptime and support is important.

Is what my old agency was using but it was a few years back now, they were good at the time.

  • Hi Peeps, I'm paying well north of £200-250 per annum for a bunch of web sites plus emails on 1and1.

The traffic is very low, and to be honest I'm totally happy with their speed and reliability.

Should I stop thinking cheap and accept that this is OK?

  • Any recommendations for shared webhosting please?
I’m with Siteground but since they dumped cPanel and Softaculous for their own system, life feels far more complicated.
I have a few sites, about 10 domains and am running wordpress, mysql and phpbb.

  • If anyone's using TSO Host you may want to check your account. They just sent my annual invoice and have changed my recurring subscription to something that's twice as expensive. Apparently they've retired the old packages and have just put people on more expensive ones.

  • I use https://www.ionos.co.uk/hosting/web-hosting - their 'Pro' package, and have done for the past 8 years, with around 15 individually bespoke industrial data collection and analytics sites I author and manage for various factories.

All php mysql and I have found Ionos very reliable and really quick on the help desk with any issues sorted really fast.

Prices are good too, in my opinion, for the quality and reliability of service I get.

  • Is anyone on Ionos having problems this morning?

All of my emails are saying that the passwords are incorrect, and I cannot log in on the website either.

None of my VPS machines seem to be affected though.

  • No but strangely I had a similar issue with 123reg today, passwords incorrect etc.

  • Hmm - using the webmail seems to be ok (same PW as the IMAP email)

  • And they've closed their phone support lines, it would seem

  • Dredge.

Have used a small independent host for about 20 years. They're calling it quits in December.

I've loved having really responsive help from Skyline for problem solving - anyone else providing that these days?

Half tempted to look at Squarespace.

Half a dozen or so sites need hosting. Domains are already registered through GoDaddy.
The sites are portfolios with video content but I'd also like to do one that has a kind of basket > quote function (no sales directly as will be invoiced after but be good to pick a basket of a few hundred items and send that basket to my email address.

  • Have been site Siteground for few years for our club website but it's up for renewal soon.

The site is still a bit shit and slow, but that could just be because it's Wordpress. internet ramblings reckon Siteground isn't great anymore...?

Anyone have any recommendations (other than not using wordpress)

Edit: Just realised I've asked the same as @Shoosh a year ago - what did you end up going with?

  • I'd recommend netcup.eu

We moved loads of hosting from 20i, and its seriously fast.

Even a bloated Wordpress site runs faster.

  • Likely going with Krystal I think.
Seems well reviewed and a definite bonus is they do free entry level plans for charities and half price for anything up from the base plan. The club is a CIO so that works out nicely.

I presume there's not much point going for a 'managed wordpress' plan if I know enough about cPanel to install and configure things (and have been doing so on the old host for a few years)

seems the difference is mainly that I do marginally less work, and that it has nvme disks instead of standard ssd - though not sure how much of a difference that'll make on a low traffic wordpress site...?

  • Still with Siteground only because I have too many other things going on at present to be able to cope with a server move!

It seems to have settled down though, and although I hate their new self-designed control panel, they appear to be reliable and secure.

  • I've got a Wordpress blog that's been sat on the same hosting provider for decades. It's costing me about £150 a year to keep. I don't really use it much because who has time to write full ride reports anymore for people with Instagram attention spans?

So, I could kill it. I could try some scraping shit to make it static and host the result on an S3 bucket just for archives sake or I could possibly find a cheaper hosting provider.

Suggestions? Bear in mind I do "computer stuff" for a living and don't actually want to touch it but it annoys me having to deal with some updates and sending money to the US, etc.
