  • I hesitate to call bullshit, but you can’t just make this kind of statement without a good source. Facts matter at times like this.

While I completely agree with your point, I would find it incredibly unlikely that they have not left Faslane in the last few days. Its what happens every time there is a major geo political event that the UK is invovled with. If they aren't already out, that is.

  • But they wouldn’t be ‘out already’ - AIUI the ‘continuous at-sea deterrent’ means that only one sub is on patrol at a time. The second is preparing to take over the next patrol, the third may be in deep maintenance, and the fourth is in routine maintenance following a completed patrol.

Occasionally you hear reference to the idea that they could fire their missiles ‘from the quayside’ at Faslane, but I’ve never heard of multiple boats being out at once operationally (except to change place on patrol).

More than happy to read any contrary evidence, this is a subject I’m interested in.

There are unconfirmed (unconfirmed by the MoD) reports that some fishermen saw a near miss between a small Royal Navy vessel and a semi submerged submarine on the Clyde three days ago. Not saying this because I think it proves anything, just find it interesting.

My understanding was that one sub is on continual patrol and another can be deployed as required. Sounds like you know a lot more than me though.

  • might be that people saw an attack sub (astute/trafalgar class) leave and assumed that meant another trident sub on the way out?
