  • I was thinking this might be a fun idea...

A series of social rides where you get to show off your local area. The big sights, the quirky spots, favourite corners, whatever.

London and the surrounding area is pretty varied and visiting somewhere new is always interesting.

I'd happily kick it off with a ride around Enfield. Social pace, stop for lunch at a farmer's market and finish up at a local microbrewery, that kind of thing.

  • Interested. Plenty around Islington to find and investigate

  • The Gates of Ruislip are always open to forumengers.

  • I was going to put forward a ride through Enfield chase and the newly "reforested" path from Hadley Wood to Enfield Lock. About 10 miles off road and plenty more if following the Lea down to the Thames.

  • Great idea!

  • For various reasons I won't be able to actually do one of these until at least April but don't let that stop anyone.

  • I’m in!

Can ride people from Chiswick area thru Kew, Richmond, Richmond Hill and park, Ham House, Teddington Lock, Kingston, Hampton Court Palace, Bushy Park, and back via Twickenham.

  • Sounds great! Plan it out and stick an event up.

I think if you added some leisurely stops, that could even be 2 or 3 events tbh. It doesn't have to be all riding all the time - an hour in the Isabella Plantation when the azaleas are out would be great. Up to you how you wanna play it.

  • This is a great idea! I'd be happy to do one around Hackney.

  • Great idea!

  • I'm in ham can hook up on your route .

  • Neat. Let's organise one then.

    May/June?

  • May 29th doing ride 100 but any other sunday should work

  • Forty Hall farmers market is on Sunday April 10th - any takers for a lazy Sunday 16 mile social meander around Enfield? I did a recce today and it seems to hang together.

Start with a coffee near Winchmore Hill station, see some posh houses, lots of parks, farmer's market for lunch, stop off to explore a couple of gardens followed by a bit of woodland trail, all ending at a micropub?

If the weather sucks the next opportunity would be 8th May. I'm still trying to work out what our April plans are so nothing guaranteed yet.

  • Are you doing the navigating?
    If so, I’m out.

  • In fairness, that time you were the one navigating!

  • You supplied the directions and since when did fairness ever come into it.

  • Good point. At least this time if my sense of direction is bad I'll be along for the ride.

  • I'm in, but only if I can ride my shopping bike at shopping speed

  • Do you have a link to this route?

  • This is the route I'm planning to do: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38785865

I think the northernmost bit is part of the route @Backstop was talking about

  • Absolutely. This will definitely be at social pace with some pitstops of at least an hour whilst we mooch around places

  • You've caught the eastern edge but there is a good chunk west to Hadley Wood along Enfield chase

  • I can upload something tomorrow

First off-road piece along the bottom of the field under Ferny Hill after you leave Wagon Road can be very boggy, probably fine right now.

  • I kind of want to join but a friend has proposed a mini pub crawl of Kings Arms (Tooley St/the Borough/Southwark) that day. It's rare I have any options on the weekend let alone two!
