  • The Singular has cable discs because it also has White Industries cranks

    @Maj will know why

  • Thats fair, but then it isnt about the lever shape. I havent seen any other cable brakes on the last 3 pages (besides the crux). But im also curious whats the reason on a spendy bike...

  • I’d read it as a more open unprompted question, I didn’t have the singular down as a spendy bike. Then I looked up the frame price…

  • It's because what if on that tour across the desert you'll never do your hydro fails and you can't fix it? It's worth having worse braking that needs adjusting as the pads wear so that if a cable snaps, but not the outer or a lever or caliper breaks, you can replace it with ease.

  • In the case of this singular bike the answer is easy. Prolly had wheels, a micro shift group set and a frame to review. To save time and make the result incomparable to anything he knows he changed all the important variables at once and took some fancy pictures in the dessert.

Real world use cases for mechanical disc brakes

    1. Quicker to setup when toying around with different lever/bar setups
    2. Harder to get wrong if you are not used to setting them up or want to go to a shop all the time
    3. Cooler choice of levers
    4. Easier to handle when having to take apart the bike for travelling
    5. Hydraulic levers are often ugly and more importantly big. This is a problem for smaller people. Better braking is worth nothing if you can’t use the levers properly.

Feel free to add to the list

  • Much more of this cable disc chat and I'm going to start posting 36ers again

  • Look again I edited my post. Bring out the big bois

  • I feel like I should have a strong opinion about this, but all brakes just kind of work

    except cantis

    and Maguras

  • Finally! I've been looking for a way to feel superior on here for nearly 10 years now

  • Seeing as I'm here...

  • The superlight rotors are a nice touch, on the giant heavy wheels

  • Very small head tube though. NEXT!

  • people should stop bike shaming

I've just got large head tube envy

  • Wait. You mean to tell me people ride these bikes?!

(Disclaimer: Ive got TRP spyres on my gravel biek, just because I already had cable shifters. Perfectly happy with their performance. I was even slightly disappointed riding my friend's bike with force hydros. Also your reasoning makes complete sense.)

  • I like my spyres. I'm not heavy and don't ride fast so no dramas on stopping me really...

  • What's after 36 though?

  • Kinda expected this from an eejit

  • You noticed that the bike shop must've stripped the banjo on your SRAM hrd levers, it's never been great anyways and you don't want to buy a whole new group set or another badly designed lever, so you get discounted mechanical levers plus some bb7s ...

  • Can't believe this is not here yet

  • I didn’t know he was based in Oregon. Does that explain anything?

  • Is it wrong that the thing that upsets me the most about that bike is the drips on the Logo aren’t running either straight down or backwards in the wind?

  • Yes, because the really upsetting part is the etap
