Best one for the money is the Shimano R353*
Pretty sure that’s what I have on my Brompton now and, paired with an mid school odyssey lever, it does well on there.
When I was running it on my fixed road bike with a tektro rl340 lever though it was shite. Needed setting up really close to the rim in order to have nice lever feel and then it just rubbed all the time, dirt(y water) on the rim, out the saddle climbing, track standing…urgh.
Admittedly that could have been as much to do with the lever as it was the brake.

while we're on the v-brake/canti chat - does anyone know of a good band on canti brake mount for a frame without? I've been looking for Moots mounts but none to be found...

I really like the headtube lenght and overall dimensions on this.

It is and I ran the same levers before.
It improves noticeably with compressionless, but the biggest improvement is using SRAM S500 with it, it bites really sharp with almost zero sponginess.

A trip to the LBS after work later tonight to get a snapped nipple sorted and then of course the rain. Lots and lots of rain. I think guards are very much on the cards.

Maybe I should ask on "any questions", but, with the intent of "functionalizing" it, what are the largest tires you can fit on a Langster? 28c?
A friend wants to cycle to work again, his commute would involve path along the Thames, etc. I guess with anything bigger than 23c mudguards are excluded?Swept back bars suggestions for this also? Currently he has bull horns cut from the original drops, reversed (was done nearly 15 years ago, bike has hardly been used since)

If you don’t mind running the back wheel as far back as you can in the dropouts you can get a 30c in there. You’ll need to change the front brake as well, I went apex (99p off eBay) as the stock ones are tres narrow.
I’ve used wide flats, track drops and midge bars and by far the best for bashing around on dirt have been the Midges. To run swept back bars I think you’d need too long a stem to not hit your knees that the handling would be more than a little strange.
As for guards? I think a flinger or maybe a set of those mtb ass saver type things could be made to work?

“The ROMANCEÜR is a swashbuckling tender heart of a fantasy warrior, who not only seduces its rider, but acts as a psychedelic aphrodisiac on the psyche. Together you become thee Romanceür, a sacred, lustful partnership rendering all riding surfaces swooned out and speechless, pining for an intimate evening including a tray of rosé Jell-O shots.”
Fuck off.

You wash your mouth. Mini v are excellent, providing you don’t go for the very shitty Tektro.
Best one for the money is the Shimano R353* (Sora grade), put compression-less housing and you’re sorted.
*this is what I fit on the majority of old tandem bikes when booked for a service.
