  • I've found Alpkit ones decent.

  • Ikea zip bags, perfect for duvets and keeping the damp/mud/oil away.

  • You can get army surplus sleeping bags made by alpkit for about 30-40 quid. Weigh an absolute ton but pack down pretty small and really well padded. Made to be able to get in with boots and kit on so usually pretty roomy too, love mine

Confused - do alpkit supply the army?!

  • Sorry, brain had a moment. I meant snugpak.

  • Finally put my van up for sale. If anyone wants to look at the add and let me knowif I can improve something on it. Cheers

  • Are you not using it anymore?

  • I am resident here now,so I can't really keep driving a UK vehicle. Also just a bit busy for van get aways. Though i might do a 4x4 thing.

  • Makes sense. Hope you enjoyed it and glws!

  • Long shot random question. Heading out to Spain with the van over Easter. Am going to finish at Valencia, leave the van, and then fly back to London. I will then fly back in June for another chill and then head back home.

Any recommendations about secure long term parking near the airport. A load come up online but no idea how secure etc they actually are.
    Cheers

  • If you are paying for it I’d think they would have details of their insurance you could read if you asked for them?

  • Get back from your ride, open door.

Pull the skewer, whip out the wheel, plonk the forks on the mount:

    Bag the wheel up:

    In the holder:

Spin the bike round and back it in, stick the skewer in to secure it:

    Get changed:

    Go home:

  • Park van life!

  • That doesn't look like my mtb after a ride in the UK today!!

  • It was really dry out there yesterday - I was surprised. Drove home in the trousers I rode in, which is very unusual.

  • Yes I could check the insurance. I was more wondering if anyone had any on the ground experience. Accepting its a long shot !

  • Left to right, duvet, pillows, sheets:

  • The pillows definitely put up a fight, although I did get them in the sack after a while.

They're just generic cheap ones (Sainsbury I think), does anyone have a recommendation for comfortable but highly packable pillows?

  • Dont have experience with Valencia but left my van 2 times on long term parking at the airport in Milan, I just trusted the reviews i found online and it was always okay.
I also left my van 2 times for long term on a camping in Lisbon, they have a special price for this and it is secure. Maybe you can ask around on some campings near Valencia too

  • does anyone have a recommendation for comfortable but highly packable pillows?

Down is always packable with sleeping bags so down pillows should be the same?

  • Is it a terrible idea to try to rig up a leisure battery, solar panel and charger in my car to allow me to work/camp away over the summer?
Very brief investigations suggest this should be possible to power a laptop/phone so all I would need is to be somewhere with signal and I'd be able to work in places where I normally wouldn't be meaning I'd then be in cool places when I finish work and could do the things in life I actually want to be doing such as not working in cool places.

Would a flexible panel be ok stuck to the roof of the car or would I lose it the first time I went on the motorway? How do you camper van dudes do it?

  • Just hook a lealisure battery up to the main battery and charge it from alternator. No need for solar.

  • Solar is far better than split charger but also more expensive, my kit from wired campers was 345 + battery
