That rule isn't worth the paper it's written on. Sprinters deviate from their 'lane' as a matter of course, if it was consistently applied there would be disqualifications in every sprint. But it isn't, and neither, in my view, should it be. Absolutely ban dangerous riding, but sprints are high risk and you can't sanitise them by insisting riders stay in an imaginary 'lane'. What next, we insist that race organisers create lanes in paint on every finish?
I guess you could argue that he didn’t endanger Groenewegen, but I’m not sure how! There’s no reference to doors in the rules AFAICS.
Philipsen launched his sprint and then deviated from his lane, forcing Groenewegen to brake mid-sprint to avoid his front wheel being taken and falling into the barriers. I’d argue that’s endangering following a clear deviation from lane. Overhead shot shows it clearly.
