He's generally backing up an ambulance crew, so unlikely to be first on scene* or have patients on-board. It's also his car, so less conspicuous while attending work meetings or, in a supermarket carpark whilst not at work.
- If he happens upon an incident whilst off shift, he has blues and a boot full of kit.
The disadvantage is occasionally meeting the type of person that holds up unmarked police cars. Or maybe they are profoundly deaf and hadn't seen the mirrors.
