I prefer the V-brakes. :')

Especially like the massive tyres
He said, right after he decreased the tyre size on his bike... jokes aside, the fox is looking really good. How do you like it with the 650s, was it worth the effort?

I fully see the irony. Still think big tyres on skinny steel frames look awesome.
That being said, been trying to make the Muddy Fox a bit zippier, and this definitely helped. 650b x 47c is probably the sweet spot for me, in terms of speed vs comfort (currently running 42c).

Sounds like a sensible choice and a good compromise. I often have a hard time deciding whether I pick a zippy road bike or a 26er for medium-long rides. I really like the 26ers on Brandenburg’s sandy tracks but it’s not exactly great fun for the 20k it takes to get out of Berlin on tarmac roads...

Went and picked up a lock up bike for Liz she found on marketplace this morning.
It’s not what I expected when she said it was an old racer thing.
Planet X RT58 with apex double tap.
So far I’ve changed the saddle and post (prologo in white and Ritchey for Black Ti Prologo and specialized black post), and removed the bottle cages.
She’s ordered some SKS longboards, new tyres and a pair of black cages… so far…

In other news Liz also had me swap out the 700x42c sawtooths for 700x41c Knards on her Grovel as she doesn’t need two road bikes 👍🥰

Definitely, yours keep popping up in its various iterations! Presumably the 650b x 47c version is with v brakes? What size is the frame? The 1990 catalogue lists frames up to 22" I'm guessing thats the seat tube, but feel like I've seen quite a few bigger ones than that about.

Mudguards are 51mm, so I'm pretty confident I can fit 47c tyres without guards using these calipers. V-brakes aren't really an option anyway, because they can't reach the 650b brake track.
What size is the frame?
Seat tube is 56cm centre to centre. Top tube 58cm centre to centre.

Had bit of a tidy up of the Wankster. Looks much better for a bit of a clean and a change up. The poor thing has been flogged half to death for too long. I’ve got some silver Stronglights, stainless surly ring, nicer stem and a shiny silver post somewhere to finish it off. The Mavic/DA wheels look nice. All it needs to really look good is a different frameset.

Good spot 👍 I was on my way back from riding from Norwich to wroxham along Marriotts and Bure valley railway and back. Every time I’ve done it fixed the death stares you get from the mountain bikers twiddling away make it so worth it.

That route is on my list to do sometime soon. I've been to Aylsham (and back) before but not added on the Bure Valley railway bit.

And that’s good enough, let’s face it, it’s going to get nicked in the city anyway.
When I ordered the guards I also got a quick link for the chain.

Thanks!
Ah yes, I used them when I converted a 27 x 1 1/4 (630) frame to 700c. Presmably quite a different feel to V brakes
