  • Anyone have experience claiming with either Frontier insurance, or Pedalcover? Both are coming in with very similar quotes, so keen to hear any experiences claiming on either.

  • Referral Code here:

25£ off for you and me :D

  • Did not particularly enjoy my claim with Pedal Cover. But I did claim at the time they were transitioning over to Yellow Jersey after being bought out. They basically tried to assess my claim based on Yellow Jersey policy terms despite there being major differences in the policy wording. Had to threaten to get lawyers involved before they would play ball, so it left quite a sour taste behind.

  • Thanks for sharing that! So they are the same company or a sister company for Yellow Jersey? I thought Pedalcover was part of the direct line group?

    edit

Both part of The Plan Group Ltd. Interesting ...

  • Sorry, Laka isn't gonna do it for me. Estimating 56 quid a month just for bikes, whereas the 2 cheapest home insurance quotes I have are around 340 including the bikes.

  • Are frontier still underwritten by Red Sands?

  • Claims were all handled through Yellow Jersey. Essentially the same company with different branding.

  • Looks like it. Is that a bad thing?

  • They're based out in Gibraltar and smaller than NIG ( Pedalcover).

I work in insurance and regularly see Red Sands pop up in FOS complaints, eg refusing to cover bikes on roof racks.

  • I went with M&S as they were similar cost to pedalcover but came with a £50 voucher.

  • Thank you, that is really helpful to know. I'll try M&S for a quote. It feels like it is becoming harder and harder each year to put high value bikes on a home insurance quote. Maybe at some point in the future it'll have to be a separate policy.

  • The amount it costs to insure these things, at what point are you better off without insurance and just paying for a new bike?

  • Try Halifax too - they were pretty decent when I moved house.

I've never claimed with them, so YMMV.

  • If you can get it you can't beat NFU insurance. They cover our house and 6 bikes for way less than most bike only policies.

I've also had to claim with them 4 times and they pay out in a week with no hassle. I can't recommend them enough. The only issue is they don't offer cover to everyone.

  • I did check those guys and it looked like they'd insure me but I didn't take it any further. I'm easily distracted (by anything that's not filling out insurance details)

  • Could use some advice. Given rapidly increasing bike costs and lack of availability, what are people valuing their bikes at? Trying to work out what a replacement would be,
    I have:
Canyon Ultimate SL, with 11 spd Red Etap and power meter, DT swiss wheels This looks to as close a match

    Cannondale Slate Force 1- Topstone?

  • Check with your insurer. Some ask you to insure for what it would cost to replace it with a brand new equivalent bike. Others say to insure for what you paid for it when you bought it. For example, the 2 insurers I was considering at renewal time this month both had completely different policies, and for me that was a big differentiating factor.

  • Hmm good thinking I’ll double check but pretty sure Laka is for like new.

  • Is there such a thing as specific insurance for a trike ? Any recommendations please ?

  • Question for anyone with a Legal & General / LV home contents insurance policy (or knowledge of these policies in general)

About to buy a £1800 bike and remembered I have my old bikes on my home policy with £100 excess. Policy runs until October 2022 and I need to take one of the bikes (£1600) off the policy as I sold it.

Laka seems like a good option for ease should the new bike get nicked but worried I might be OVER-insuring. L&G excess is £100 and I'm keen to protect my no-claims tbh

So... has anyone has to claim from L&G / LV home insurance for a bike theft? If so... a) did they mess you around and b) did your premiums go batshit the following year?

    TIA!

  • Has anyone claimed for a stolen/damaged bike from Admiral before? I've just renewed my contents insurance and updated my bikes on there. This is the first time I've had a bike that I'm going to lock up that's actually worth something so wondering what the process to make a claim would actually be like.

  • No but curious as I might use them for my contents ins.

  • I've not had to make a claim but I've had contents insurance through them for a few years and had car insurance with them until I sold my car. They're cheaper than anywhere else and their customer service has always been decent when I've needed it!

  • Thanks. Will have another look at them. It's the whole estimating value of everything in the flat that I'm loathe to do.

  • Anyone ever used Sundays? Price and cover wise seem similar to Laka
