Same Grand-Dam line, yep. Ours should be 'finer', in theory....

This is just an adorable thing.

We have a border-esq dog and he loves keeping a look out

That's really interesting, thanks!
I have seen him do similar before after a long walk, a few months back, so I'm inclined to think its just a sign of tiredness, rather than injury.

Crumpet's been having a grand old time with all of the new, recently unearthed smells that Eunice has provided.

3rd doorstep encounter with idiot neighbour and his defensive dog. This time it at least had a lead attached but unfortunately no idiot neighbour at the end of it. Counting my blessings though really, I'm thinking if this dog wanted to do any actual damage daisy would be seriously hurt by now.

FFS. Because of Brexit you aren't allowed to take "meat based dog food" from the UK to the EU.
Planning on splitting our time between UK and Austria and suddenly have to start think about changing the mutts diet instead of taking his normal food with us.

Can you get their regular food on the continent?
Or an approximation of it (I understand transitioning food is a process though) -
• #4312
An approximation is almost certainly possible. He's on paleoridge here. I have no doubt that there are quality BARF options in Austria.
Seems crazy that you can't take even one day worth of dog food with you on a journey though!

Sure i've asked this before, but what's the recommended pre-first dog reading? Ta

If I had known you were after a dog book, I could have posted one with the watch...accidentally ended up with a spare copy of a really good one.
If you don't mind waiting a few days, I'll put it in the post to you.

What you really need is a PracticeDog, 1 have four currently available for a one month loan. The sheep have just been turned out on the field behind us. There's nothing quite like dogsbreath with the added piquancy of sheepshit. They'll be off for lambing in a month...

Could you pop a day or two's worth in some tupperware to take with you and pretend that you're a shit cook rather than a dog food smuggler?
-
• #4319
^ on the same train of thought, if you eat it as much as the dog while you're out there then it's human food.

don’t flame me, i guess i’m not adjusting well to the modern world, BUT: does anyone not insure their dog? Does anyone rely on a pay per treatment or have a good arrangement? We have a lively but senior dog in central london. Insurance from pet plan is looking to be £100 a month, insane.

would also be curious to know if this was also a rip off in other european countries, if you are out there

I don't, won't and never have insured my dogs. In 30 plus years of an average of 3 dogs at any given time, I doubt I have spent more than £3k on treatments. The biggest cost is the price of cremations, which probably isn't covered anyway. All my dogs have been working stock, not show breeds and not breeds with a history of congenital health problems.
If I had insured my dogs at, say, £100 per month for the whole mob (not London), the cost would have been in excess of £36k over the 30 years in real terms at current rates.

I figure we could find the money to cover emergencies so don’t bother with insurance for our two. Basically what @ColinTheBald said.
-
• #4324
Roughly £2k spent on insurance premiums over the last 5 or so years with Otto. Otto has had about £2500 worth of treatment after two bits of bad luck. Nothing too serious. The worst being a large flesh wound requiring a lot of sutures and a chest drain.

I think it depends if you've got money saved already you could use potentially tomorrow. It's not unheard of to get a £7k bill because your dog broke its leg in a freak accident. Or if you get a puppy and it turns out to have some genetic health issue that will require treatment for life.
Look at that little face! Are they related or just similar looking?
