In less than stellar news… the Scorpa Easy that I bought as a project has turned into an ordeal.
All the other non-engine issues aside, I need to split the case to check all the internals and replace that entire crank assembly.
It’d been over a fortnight and I hadn’t even got the bottom end out the frame.
First, the flywheel nut refused to budge. Cue a delivery of impact sockets and a budget Hilka gun to fit the compressor.
Then the flywheel itself was seized in place.
Then, the clutch nut. But that freed faster.
But wait! There’s more!
Whoever thought having a swingarm axle/pivot bolt through the engine? Thanks. THANKS.
That bolt spins in the hole, but won’t budge out. Seems bent a little maybe. Whatever the issue I can’t cut between case and swingarm, nor swingarm and engine case.
Asked the mechanics. They said “welcome to our world” and agreed a bigger hammer is often the only way. Then, the guy showed me the wonky finger from smashing it where the hammer missed the drift a few years ago.
We spoke through options. Best option is drill out the bolt.
Halfway there for the frame-swingarm part. Waiting on some larger bits to finish the job. Then hopefully it will be frame out, then worry about swingarm. Then engine….
Nothing like a seized bolt to make the week a bit spicy.
