  • nice lighting setup 👍

  • I've pretty much given up on non-hideous office chairs. I want something with adjustable lumbar support that doesn't look too much like an office chair. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be an option. There does seem to be a gap in the market for fully adjustable chairs that look ok in a normal room.

  • Did you replace your gas cylinder? My Size C has a hell of a wobble

  • I did not... just the seat and back materials plus a new lumbar support from https://www.designcabinet.biz/brands/herman-miller/spare-parts/

  • Thanks all. Did not think of ikea for some reason, I quite like the look of their mid range padded gamer chair without hideous branding. Will check it out, also noticed they have a sit stand desk too

  • A few people have, and love, this... which I also had in the Cloudflare office and liked a lot:

    £680 https://www.huntsoffice.co.uk/office-furniture/steelcase-think-3d-knit-back-office-chair

    This isn't hideous. Thanks.

  • I have this one since 2019. My only nit with it is the sheer amount of dust accumulating behind the back support.

Now I remember, first year (first week?) one of the wheels fell off, and a metal springy bit fell of from the socket so it won't click back. Bit of gorilla tape, a hole in the tape, and it's back. Holding up well.

  • Is that due the chair being shit, or people not being used to active seating? I've spent 2 years on a backapp stool and now a normal office chair feels like I'm locked in as my hips (ooof) can't be in an open / active position

  • Eames Alu chair. I have one and really like it. If you want something decent looking, I think a 2nd hand one is a good compromise between ergonomics, looks and price.

  • No worries. I've found something else instead now but thanks for letting me know.

  • I think it’s pretty crap, I’d rather stand up. But I don’t know much about active seating admittedly.

  • I don’t know much about active seating

  • Perfect for those Christine Kieler moments. Although you should be nekkid to use it in the position in the middle photo.

  • Surely the seat's too high? Not being able to rest your feet on the ground properly is really annoying and bum-numbing.

  • it's a HAG chair and it's amazing, don't knock it until you've tried it. yes, she's got it a bit high.
the Aeron is much more boring, and no more comfortable.

  • tried one in the Back2 shop, they are great but i went for something else in the end.
if i had the space for a couple of chairs or wanted to work close up at a high bench then i would buy one.

  • On the topic of active sitting, and of standing desks - who has any experience of this type of thing?

  • I've tried all sorts over the years...kneeling stools, gym balls, various expensive office chairs in various expensive offices...whatever I sit on I will just end up curled up into a slumpy little ball. After facing the truth that my subconscious can even find a way to slump on a gym ball I gave up and decided I might as well just buy a basic chair to slump in.

The only thing that has made a difference, which is new, is the sit stand desk at work goes lower than normal so I can sit with my feet on the ground. Bingo, no longer curl my legs under me.

  • my subconscious can even find a way to slump

    I know the feeling.

One thing that worked for me was raising my monitor a lot higher. YMMV of course.

  • a butt plug could work to better your posture I suppose ?!

  • Me. I have a Dynamic Sitall sit/stand stool. I like it, takes a while to get your back used to it so I had to build up my time, but worth it.

Quick and easy to change the height if you change the desk height from sit to stand and it's nice to have the ability to have some support when you're standing.

  • I have this, kinda along those lines

    https://www.backapp.com/

Really rate it, made a big difference compared to the shit chair I had before
