  • 6music in the evening, but R3 in the day.

  • There's a whole world on Radio Garden

  • R3 is a revelation. Nothing 'up on Bandcamp', no-one 'out of London', no crisps, no people's playlist, and Dan from Brighton is yet to ring in to tell us what he's up to this afternoon.

Just some fella on the piano/violin.

  • 4extra comedy has been better than R4 recently I think

  • I don't mind it in the morning around 8am, but yeah the comedy and stuff is so wack

  • Moved from kexp to kcrw then back to fip . A bit of a change from bbc plugging how great it is.

  • Fip is great. It fell off slightly but it's been back to its best recently. I just have to switch off when some strong jazz arrives out of nowhere.

  • @DayTripper_Mk2 have had fip on all week. My mum put me onto it. Love the randomness and what's not to like about an occasional other language I can't understand

  • Another vote for fip. Used to listen to that years ago in the first publishing place I worked for.

Fully in for any jazz vibes too :-D

  • Lamacq did 'tell us about some time you fell asleep' the other night. And liked it so much he did it again the next night.

  • The public campaign to save 6 Music was the worst thing to happen to it

  • Have we talked about how long you can shout "trunk of punk"? Feels a worthy bedfellow to crisps on the radio etc...

  • I've reached my limit with 6Music now. The moments of enjoyment or discovering new music from it are far far outweighed by how fucking astronomically irritating the presenters are.

  • Bet you didn't know they where now 20 years old.

  • I really don't bother anymore. I honestly can't remember the last time I had it on. I just listen to NTS Radio now. Minimal chat, music you've never heard in your life before.

  • Agreed - I gave up about 6 months ago - put up with Smooth Chill for a while until I figured out they play the same thing every day - now on Radio 3 ( work that one out ).
For variety have just taken delivery of the best of Sister Sledge, might follow it later with some Boards of Canada, do find that variety is important.

  • I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Why did 6music used to mean so much to me and so little now? Is it because I’m getting old and stuck in my ways? Then I realised, no, it’s the polar opposite. 6 has done the thing of ageing with its demographic, instead of leaving behind those who wanted the get off the ride, it’s now catering to them. It’s now aimed squarely at the same individuals who were 20-something and craving new stuff 20 years ago, who are now 40-something with kids and a dog and a roast in the oven who want to hear shite from 20 years ago.

It’s become R2 for middle class white people who used to take drugs. Fuck it.

  • I’m not sure that entirely true. I do agree it’s become crap though.
Luckily though the sounds app I can listen to those broadcasters I like. I won’t have 6 on live, the times I listen to the radio are when the very worst presenters are on. Weekdays daytime and evening, it is puerile then. It angers me that I campaigned to save it when it was threatened with the axe.

  • The day is generally pretty dire, but even then there is some good new music.

It's the constant encouragement of listener participation. The general public are all cunts. Even me. No-one wants to hear anything about your pointless meaningless life. Or about mine.

  • Kexp , they dont ram who we are down your throat all day . Although their subscribe funding plugs are a bit irritating.
I wish we could stream fip in the office.

  • To add to the NTS and KEXP recommendations I'll add Spanish station RNE.

  • SunnyG (sunny Govan, LOL because its never sunny in Govan) based in Glasgow is a good one, extremely broad range of chat, many bangers etc. RNIB connect (royal national institute for the Blind I guess?) also worth a few hours in daytime, learned quite a bit from that, tunes not really, but they get some good guests from all over.

  • Just a PSA to avoid listening on Sunday
