    I saw a (presumably accurate) factoid that, if you shrank the distance between the Earth and the Sun (148mm km) to the width of a penny, the distance to the next nearest star, Alpha Centauri (4.2465 light years away) would be 10 miles.

    At this scale, how far away would the next nearest galaxy, Canis Major Dwarf (25k light years away), be?

  • I heard another similar factoid that if the nucleus of a hydrogen atom was the size of a full stop printed in a paperback, then it’s single electron would be knocking about some 100 meters away
