• I've got a new baby incoming so I wanted to move my record player up high out of the way. I got a really long phono lead, and some connectors to join it to the one fixed into the record player. Now I have terrible feedback and humming. Any ideas why this might be?

  • You have effectively created an aerial - the signal from a record player cartridge is very low, which is why it will go to a phono stage or phono input on your amp, that makes it very susceptible to any induced noise on the cable...

If you have a separate phono pre-amp then run short cables to that and the longer cables from that to your amp - as the signal will have been amplified to line level and therefore any interference will be much less noticeable.
