I’ve got a quad 33/303 preamp/power amplifier combo, and whilst the vinyl setup is good, I’ve currently got one of these plugged into it to play music off my phone, and the TV is connected just our the head phone socket.

Any suggestions on an upgrade on the digital in? Do I need a DAC? Cheers.

I've a Chord 2qute DAC that has optical and co-axial if you're looking for something that was quite fancy but has now depreciated significantly (and still sounds great)

Cheers, on googling seems sound from a iPad is way better, I've got a usb-c to red/white cable so might plug that in an test the difference.
