Anyone in or near South London with a combined amp they really ought to have got rid of years ago? Need something to rig up some hifi speakers to my telly out of the headphone jack as the internal speakers are wack/buzzy with certain freqs, it’s otherwise a pretty good telly so this would make it brilliant. Really don’t want a big money thing, just an old half-decent seperates amp. Please. Like a swap for some beers type thing, or maybe I’ll stretch to £30. Hit me up all the hoarders

I’ve got a quad 33/303 preamp/power amplifier combo, and whilst the vinyl setup is good, I’ve currently got one of these plugged into it to play music off my phone, and the TV is connected just our the head phone socket.
Any suggestions on an upgrade on the digital in? Do I need a DAC? Cheers.

Maybe one of the Topping DACs with Bluetooth? I don’t think your 1mii receiver has a digital output, does it? Bear in mind that Bluetooth is probably never going to sound amazing.
I was doing the same with my TV’s headphone output until recently. Now I’ve got an optical digital cable going to my amp’s onboard DAC, and it’s night & day better.

I see. I think I rig that up. Or perhaps one of those Wiim things mentioned above?
I don’t mind lugging my phone into the stereo for better sound, but will I still need a dac? I’ve got another one that has a one coaxial input (and a spidf I used when I had a PlayStation), can you get a male 3.5mm jack to a single male coaxial, would that work?

The projector & TV thread is pretty dormant so I'll ask here:
We had an LG projector that we're happy with, sent it for repair after a minor fault and now they're saying refund not replacement. Should I buy the same again, or is there anything else better to consider? Feels like projectors are even more of a minefield than other consumer electronics when armchair shopping.
It was an LG PF50KS, very happy with picture quality. Could never get streaming to work but I'll just get a Chromecast or something. Bright enough for closed curtains which is fine for us. It only had digital keystone as opposed to optical lens so that'd be a welcome upgrade. It'll be ceiling mounted this time so doesn't have to be tiny, but I do like the compact nature of the LG.

What other outputs does your tv have? Most budget Dacs should have optical, co-axial and USB so you’ll need to be wired for your phone. Otherwise you’ll need something like a chrome cast audio which you can stream to, as well as a DAC for the tv, and use the pre-amp on your Quad to select the input source.

I've a Chord 2qute DAC that has optical and co-axial if you're looking for something that was quite fancy but has now depreciated significantly (and still sounds great)

Chord 2qute DAC
Cheers, on googling seems sound from a iPad is way better, I've got a usb-c to red/white cable so might plug that in an test the difference.

Wiim arrived about 20mins ago - seems pretty straightforward, download the app to connect it to wifi and it does an update and then was available as a spotify connect device.
Came with basic but functional spdif, phono , 3.5mm and usb-c power cable (but no power supply)Will have a proper listen tonight

I've got a new baby incoming so I wanted to move my record player up high out of the way. I got a really long phono lead, and some connectors to join it to the one fixed into the record player. Now I have terrible feedback and humming. Any ideas why this might be?

You have effectively created an aerial - the signal from a record player cartridge is very low, which is why it will go to a phono stage or phono input on your amp, that makes it very susceptible to any induced noise on the cable...
If you have a separate phono pre-amp then run short cables to that and the longer cables from that to your amp - as the signal will have been amplified to line level and therefore any interference will be much less noticeable.

Did you definitely buy a phono-specific cable? They’re different from a standard RCA interconnect - lower capacitance due to the much lower signal level from a record player. Is your ground wire connected properly too?

Recently got a Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt to connect to my phone. Pretty happy with it so far.
However, I'm finding that after initially connecting to phone, and adjusting the volume for the first time, the volume suddenly goes incredibly loud. Any other Dragonfly users have this? Wondering if it's some kind of bug that can be fixed. -

Thanks both!

I obviously bought the first cables I found while in a departmental zoom meeting, they're definitely not phono specific!
The turntable doesn't have a ground wire.I think I'll just find a place to move the whole stereo, seems like the cheapest option!

I asked a guy in a hifi store the same thing. More user friendly was literally the only thing he could come up with. So.... don't be a buyer.
